Shipping Hazmat with Multi Carrier Shipping Label App

Topic summary

A merchant is testing the Multi Carrier Shipping Label app for shipping hazardous materials via UPS but faces a compliance issue.

The Problem:

  • The app generates downloadable documents with required hazmat details (UN numbers, packaging groups, hazard classes)
  • UPS requires their official blank Hazardous Materials Shipping Paper forms, computer-generated with approved hazmat software
  • Printing the app’s documents onto UPS blank forms doesn’t work—the app includes labeled boxes and content names that duplicate information already on the UPS form

Current Status:

  • PluginHive support team (Anindita) responded and is working with UPS technical team to resolve the issue
  • The merchant requested a phone call for follow-up but hasn’t received a solution yet
  • Another user asked if the issue was resolved, mentioning they have a similar problem and currently use DHL directly as a workaround (though not ideal from a workflow perspective)

Resolution: Remains open and ongoing, awaiting solution from the app developer and UPS technical team.

We’re trialing the Multi Carrier Shipping Label app for the few goods we ship that fall within the Hazmat / Dangerous goods category. When using the app it allows you to download “extra documents” in the label summary section, these documents have the details UPS requires of the contents being shipped (UN#, Packaging Group, Hazard Class, etc). However, UPS is claiming you must use their provided Hazardous Materials Shipping Paper blank forms that have to be computer generated utilizng appropriate hazmat software. If I take the Hazardou Materials 8-part form they provide and try and use this in the printer when printing the “extra documents” provided by Multi Carrier Shipping Label app it doesn’t work, primarily because the app has the boxes with names in addition to the content details, ultimately doubling a lot of the content that already existed on the UPS provided form.

Does anyone have any experience finding a solution to remain compliant with UPS? I’ve attached an example of what it looks like when I try and print the Multi Carrier Shipping Label App documents onto the blank UPS form.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @garrett7542

I am from the PluginHive MultiCarrier Shipping Label team. Thanks for reaching out with this concern. I have checked with my team & they have already contacted you to resolve this issue as soon as possible!

Let me know if you have any further queries. I will be happy to help!

Anindita,

Can you follow-up with this ticket. I still haven’t spoken to anybody regarding a solution. I prefer a phone call if possible.

Thank you,

Hi @garrett7542

Based on the last call our team had with you, we are in contact with UPS technical team to resolve this. We will update you with the solution soon!

Thanks!

Garrett, did the PH Multicarrier app work in the end, or did you find a different solution? We have a similar issue, and we use DHL directly, but of course, it’s not ideal from the user and process flow perspectives.
