I recently noticed Shopify announced
“Shipping insurance for your Shopify Shipping labels” - https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shipping/shopify-shipping/shipping-insurance
While this is may seem very enticing, there is a very important warning that I feel should be included.
Your claim will be automatically denied if you use ANY branded packaging, as so many e-commerce owners do.
EXAMPLE: If your company “ABC Pencils”, ships a box of pencils in a nicely branded cardboard box with your logo on it, the insurance claim will be denied.
The language they will point to in the terms and conditions reads, “…bears a descriptive label or packaging which describes, or alludes to, the nature of the contents. This includes the manufacturer’s packaging”
Even if your logo is a circle with your company name on it, they will deny your claim. I used them for years and paid lots of money to them. Two claims were then denied, ($500 worth of merchandise) because our company logo was stamped onto the box.
Basically, buyer beware. It is better to use carrier insurance rather than use a supplemental 3rd party insurance company.
