Shipping not available for selected address

Topic summary

Issue: Customers intermittently see “Shipping not available for selected address” at checkout, blocking orders.

Guidance provided: Check Settings > Shipping and Delivery for correct shipping zones (regions you ship to) and shipping rates (price/weight rules). If using multiple shipping profiles (product groupings with their own rates), configure each. Ensure rate conditions aren’t overly restrictive. Verify Shopify Markets (controls which regions can purchase) are enabled for target locations. Test with a single product/address and expand. Share non-sensitive screenshots and contact support if urgent.

Reports from merchants: Error appears even for addresses they serve and with correct configurations. Disproportionately affects returning customers; not all customers are impacted. One store notes roughly every 10th Portland address fails, with no consistent product or payment pattern; one customer later succeeded without changes.

Community tips: A YouTube video was shared as a “quick fix,” with reminders to double-check all rates.

Status: No confirmed root cause or fix. Conflicting views (misconfiguration vs. platform issue). Further data collection and support escalation are ongoing.

Shipping not available for selected address

Hi @Shimonindic

Welcome to the Shopify Community!

Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like you are having some issues with the shipping rates in your store. Are you seeing this error in your checkout?

This error will usually appear in your checkout if a customer is entering an address that does not have any shipping rates available. I would suggest heading over to the Settings > Shipping and Delivery section of your admin, and then adding in the relevant shipping zones & shipping rates for the places that you ship to. If you have products in multiple shipping profiles, then you will need to do the same for each profile.

If you are adding any weight or price conditions to the rates, then it’s important to make sure they are not overly restrictive, and that most combinations of products would always be able to qualify for a shipping rate.

Something else I would recommend checking, is the Shopify Markets settings on your store. By default, the international market will be disabled. You can enable this by navigating to Settings > Markets and then locating the market and activating it.

After making sure the above suggestions have been implemented, you can then test your checkout to see if you are being presented with appropriate shipping rates. Testing with a single product from a single shipping profile is a good idea, as it helps to keep things simple and easy to troubleshoot. After that, you can add more products to your cart and also test other locations that you ship to.

Besides this, how is the rest of your store doing? Are you just starting out and in the process of setting everything up, or have you been selling on Shopify for a while?

This is happening to me even to addresses that I do ship to, and the shipping configs are all correct

Hi @danteamk

Thanks for joining in here.

That is an interesting situation! Has this just recently started happening on your store? Also just to confirm, are you seeing the same error message as @Shimonindic with the ‘Shipping Not Available For Selected Address’ error popping up in checkout? Is it happening for all addresses, or only some?

Have you confirmed that there are valid shipping zones & shipping rates for the places that you ship to, and also that you have the relevant Shopify Markets enabled?

If you are comfortable doing so, feel free to share some screenshots here of your setup, and we can troubleshoot this further here. If this is an urgent issue that is preventing your store from making sales, then please do contact our support team directly so we can take a closer look and assist you as quickly as possible.

this is happening on my store to. Not all customers but returning customers who now cant place online orders! I am loosing sales because of this issue and after numerous chats with your online support this has still not been resolved

Hi @waxandmelt

Thanks for reaching out and joining in here.

I understand that you are experiencing an issue on your store where returning customers are unable to place online orders, causing you to lose sales. That certainly does sound inconvenient so I can understand why you would want to get to the bottom of this.

In order to help me better understand the situation, could you please provide me with additional information regarding the problem? For instance, can you provide some generalized examples of customers who are affected by this issue and the steps they took leading up to the problem? Is this happening for all returning customers, or only some? Screenshots of the actual error message they are seeing in the checkout would be beneficial also.

Please don’t provide any customer details such as names, addresses or other sensitive information, as this is a public forum. Instead, please provide general information that you may have received from your customers regarding this issue - perhaps it will allow us to identify any patterns or trends among your returning customers who are unable to place online orders such as a specific location or products ordered etc.

You mentioned that you have been in touch with our support team, but the issue is still unresolved. Sometimes technical issues such as this can take some time to troubleshoot, as the issue may not be immediately obvious. Can you confirm if this has been passed on to another team, or if you are waiting for a follow up reply on your support ticket? Were the team able to provide any possible solutions to your problem during your chats? I’d love to hear what sort of troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

Once I have more information, I will do my best to help you troubleshoot this further.

Same! We just started receiving complaints from customers who are receiving this error, and I am wholly unconvinced the issue is related to the shipping markets. I am talking like every 10th person who is trying to ship to Portland is presented with this error–it makes no sense! There is nothing consistent about the products they are purchasing either, nor the payment method they are using at checkout–one customer was eventually able to place an order with her shipping address that had been previously rejected, despite me making no changes.
