Shipping Problems for a New Product

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner is experiencing checkout errors (“shipping not available”) for a new physical inventory product—diecast airplane models—despite configuring a custom shipping profile with USPS (US) and DHL (international) rates.

Key troubleshooting steps suggested:

  • Verify the product is assigned only to the custom “Models” profile, not the general Printify profile
  • Confirm the product is marked as physical with accurate weight/dimensions
  • Ensure shipping zones include all target countries with active carrier rates
  • Add specific carrier services (e.g., USPS First Class, DHL Express) under “Use carrier to calculate rates”
  • Check that the product is assigned to the correct fulfillment location (US shop location)

Current status:

  • Flat rate shipping works successfully, indicating the issue is specifically with calculated carrier rates
  • The user confirmed product details (weight, dimensions, location assignment) are correctly entered
  • One responder offered direct support via email to troubleshoot further

Likely cause: Missing or improperly configured carrier service selections within the shipping profile, preventing Shopify from calculating rates at checkout.

Hello all!

Recently, I added a product to my Shopify, this was the first product that was not a Printify product, it is stored inventory. I made a new shipping profile for this product and future products like this (diecast airplane models) with 2 shipping zones, the US and the international countries I ship to. For the US, I use USPS discounted rates, and internationally I use DHL rates. Despite the shipping info I inputted, when I go to test a checkout, it says shipping not available to this address. I tried even putting in postal codes from different nations that I ship to, yet nothing worked. Anyone have any solutions?

Based on your screenshots, description and according to my understandings, I can see you’re having trouble getting your shipping rates to appear at checkout for your new diecast airplane models.
The Problem is :

Your shipping rates aren’t showing up at checkout because:

  1. Your shipping profile isn’t properly linked to your physical inventory location
  2. There may be a mismatch between your shipping zones and product locations
  3. The shipping settings aren’t fully configured for the new profile

Steps you can follow:

  1. Verify Product Location Assignment:
  • Go to your product listing
  • Ensure the product is assigned to your “Shop location - United States” fulfillment location
  • Remove it from any Printify profiles if it’s accidentally there
  1. Check Shipping Profile Settings:
  • In your custom shipping profile, confirm:
  • The fulfillment location is set to your US shop location
  • Both US and international shipping zones are properly configured
  • Rates are active and not set to “Shipping not available”
  1. Reconfigure Shipping Zones:
  • For US shipping:
  • Make sure USPS rates are enabled
  • Check that all US states/territories are included
  • For international shipping:
  • Verify all target countries are selected
  • Confirm DHL rates are properly set up
  1. Test with Different Addresses:
  • Try a standard US address
  • For international, test with a major city in an approved country
  1. Clear Shipping Cache:
  • Sometimes Shopify caches shipping settings. Try:
  • Updating the product
  • Waiting 10 minutes
  • Testing in an incognito browser window

Additional Tips

  • Make sure your product isn’t marked as “digital” or “no shipping required”
  • Check your product weight/dimensions as these affect carrier rate calculations
  • Consider setting up flat rates temporarily to test if calculated rates are the issue

If these steps don’t resolve it, you may need to contact Shopify support as there could be an account-level setting preventing your shipping profiles from working correctly.

For 1. “inventory will be stocked at multiple locations” being my location. it is not set under printify

for 2. shop location is set to the us, all countries i ship to are inputted, and no zone is marked as shipping not available because rates are present

for 3. USPS and DHL rates are configured and active

I dont really know what to do at this point

@FlyWearShop Can you please DM me? I will try my best to help you out.

Hey! @FlyWearShop ,

It sounds like the issue might be with how the product is assigned to the new shipping profile or how the zones and rates are configured. Make sure the diecast airplane product is properly added to the correct custom shipping profile (not just the general one), and double-check that both the US and international zones include the right countries and postal codes. Also, confirm that each zone has active shipping rates set up—if no rate is found for a given address, Shopify will show “shipping not available.” Finally, ensure your product’s weight and dimensions match the criteria for the rates you’ve created.

Does email work?

Weight and dimensions have been entered, and the product was added to the profile

Flat rate tested and it worked, so it must be a problem with calculated rates.

Hey there @FlyWearShop

Based on what I’m seeing, your issue likely comes down to how the shipping rates are set up in your new “Models” profile. A few things to check:

1. Make sure the product isn’t also in the General Profile

If the diecast model is listed in both the Models and General profiles, Shopify might get confused and not apply the right rates.
→ Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery > General profile and make sure this product isn’t there. It should only be in the Models profile.

2. Add actual shipping rates under USPS and DHL

You’ve got USPS and DHL showing, but it doesn’t look like you’ve added specific services yet. That’s why no rates are appearing at checkout.

To fix this:

  • Click “Add rate” under each carrier

  • Choose “Use carrier or app to calculate rates”

  • Then select services like USPS First Class or DHL Express Worldwide

Without those, Shopify doesn’t know what to charge.

3. Check the product’s shipping setup

  • Confirm that the item is marked as a physical product

  • Add a realistic weight (looks like you’ve done this, just double-check)

  • And make sure it’s assigned to your main Shop location, not Printify

Bonus tip: Sometimes it helps to make a quick duplicate of the product and test checkout again. If it works for the clone, there might be something odd with how the original listing was saved.

Once things are working, I’d also suggest using a tracking app like ParcelPanel Order Tracking, it integrates with USPS, DHL, and UPS, and gives your customers a clean tracking page. Super helpful, especially for international orders.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes and if it solves the issue, feel free to mark it as a solution so others can find it too.
