Now that the strike is over in Canada, I’m trying to buy a USPS First Class international shipping label but I’m getting an error. When will this be fixed???
Topic summary
Merchants are unable to purchase USPS First Class International shipping labels for Canada through Shopify, receiving system error messages when attempting to do so.
Timeline & Persistence:
- Issue began after Canada Post strike ended (late December 2024)
- Problem remains unresolved as of April 2025
- Multiple merchants report the same error across different checkout systems
Root Cause (per Shopify Support):
While Canada Post resumed operations, USPS has not yet re-enabled label purchases for Canadian destinations. Shopify directed users to monitor USPS updates directly.
Merchant Concerns:
- Lack of official communication or transparency from Shopify about the ongoing issue
- Credit card authorization fees being charged despite inability to complete orders
- Customer dissatisfaction due to shipping delays
- One merchant threatened legal action over accumulated fees
Current Status:
The issue remains unresolved with no timeline for fix. Some merchants question whether April 2025 errors might be tariff-related, though the problem predates recent tariff changes by several months.
I am also getting an error with the message, “There was a problem buying shipping labels. Review order details and try again. A system error has occurred and is being investigated.”.
Me too, I’m glad I’m not alone, but I wish there was more transparency from shopify and their error messages.
Same here. According to Canada Post, international parcels are being accepted once again on December 23. That’s today and the error message is still appearing.
Dec. 30, still having this issue. Any update???
Still no fix from Shopify?! So I have to pay the credit card authorization fee. But then have to cancel the order because Shopify is not allowing me to buy Canada bound USPS labels. Cancel the order and stuck with the fee? Is this an intentional scam by shopify to collect CC authorization fees and not let us buy labels? This has been the case all season. If you do not want a class action lawsuit I would suggest you fix this error problem on generating Canada USPS labels and refund the fees I have been stuck paying all December. Clock is ticking. Fix it!
Hey Shopify, why not even a reply here? It is now Jan 3rd and I have been trying every day. My customers are upset and I don’t blame them. Is this how you handle problem reports from users?
It’s ridiculous that Shopify STILL has not let people know what’s going on. I did a chat with them and this is what I heard:
17:15 Camilo (Support Advisor): I appreciate your patience, Kim. I spoke with the Shipping team about your case, and they let me know that Canada Post has resumed operations. However, USPS has not yet enabled label purchases for Canada. They suggest keeping an eye on the Image removed due to security concerns for the latest updates. Once USPS allows label purchases for Canada, you should be all set to proceed.
17:15 Kim Harvey: Shopify should put out a notice about that then
17:16 Kim Harvey: There’s a LOT of people having the same issue per my post on the community page.
17:17 Camilo (Support Advisor): You’re absolutely right. I’ll pass your feedback along to the shipping team, as it’s important to have a notice for these situations.
Getting the same error on Shop checkout and regular Shopify checkout. It’s April 2025 and thought maybe it was tariff-related, but sounds like it’s been going on for a long time.
Here are the two error message we are getting on Shopify checkout: “Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Review your address to ensure it’s correct and try again, or select a different address.” AND from Shop checkout same error. Could it be due to customers rejecting high-tariiff parcels?
