I use ShipStation to fulfill orders and typically it sends over a fulfillment notification and then Shopify adds the tracking number, marks as fulfilled, and emails the customers.
Some issue happened with ShipStation causing this process not to happen at all. We have thousands of orders that are showing unfulfilled on Shopify, but I know they were fulfilled in ShipStation.
Has anyone ever run into this issue and is there an efficient way to mass update orders to pull the tracking information from ShipStation and mark these orders as fulfilled?
I know there’s an app that does something similar, but unfortunately it didn’t have support for split shipments which we do a lot of.
The easiest fix is built directly into ShipStation and should be your first attempt. Go to the Shipments tab (not Orders), filter by the affected date range, and select your shipments in bulk.
This forces ShipStation to re-send the original API call, which automatically handles split shipments correctly by only fulfilling the specific items associated with that tracking number.
Oooh I didn’t realize this was a thing! I think there may be a step missing at the end though? Once you select shipments what do you do? Update tracking? Notify marketplace?
I tried both of these options and after waiting a few minutes, neither of them had any impact on the orders selected. If the next step was in fact one of those options, what would be the next troubleshooting method I could try?
I appreciate your help by the way! Shopify and ShipStation have been entirely unhelpful just blaming the other
@chris0charles On ShipStation side the action is Notify Marketplace, that re-sends the fulfillment payload back to Shopify. If that didn’t move anything in a few minutes, the next thing I’d check is whether those shipments still have a connected marketplace mapping to Shopify (ShipStation → Settings → Selling Channels). If the mapping was interrupted during that window, the payload won’t reach Shopify even though the shipment is valid.
If the mapping looks good, try a smaller batch (10–20) to confirm the re-send logic still works. If the small batch updates, it’s just a volume/queue delay. If it doesn’t, then it’s likely an API event gap and you’ll need to bulk re-fulfill via import or app with split-shipment support.
How do I check the specific shipments connection to the marketplace? The marketplace is currently connected, has never disconnected to my knowledge, and wouldn’t have been imported to begin with if it had been disconnected at the time of the order going through?
The batch was 1 order and it still hasn’t updated after 8 hours. Unfortunately, I am unable to find a bulk import app that supports split shipping.
I can see how difficult this would be with plenty of orders involved. I’d first check whether the Shopify ShipStation connection had any sync issues and try reconnecting or manually re-syncing the store. Also check ShipStation activity/error logs to see if fulfilment updates stopped syncing to Shopify. Since the orders are already fulfilled in ShipStation, it may be worth checking whether tracking details can be pushed back in bulk before handling them manually.
If managing this continues to be difficult, using PH Multi Carrier Shipping Label app by PluginHive could help. It supports split shipments, automatically syncs tracking details and fulfilment updates back to Shopify, and also offers accurate carrier rates with bulk label printing for high-volume orders.
