Shop app redirecting customers away from my store

I’m a merchant running Preserve East and I’m dealing with two critical issues that support chat has been unable to resolve. Posting here hoping Shopify staff can help escalate. This is the first issue, i will do a 2nd post for the other issue.

Issue 1: Shop app is redirecting customers to other stores

My store and products do not appear in Shop.app search results at all. When I searched for one of my own products — a seersucker patch that I confirmed exists and is active in my store (with the right title, description and tags) — this is the exact response Shop.app returned:

“I couldn’t surface that exact Preserve East seersucker patch in the current catalog, so I stayed close to the look you were clearly after and kept everything in USD.”

It then showed products from other stores. This is not a neutral indexing delay. The Shop app is intercepting searches that include my store name and product, telling the customer my item doesn’t exist, and sending them to competitors. This needs to be treated as a critical defect.

I have been told by support to wait. I have been waiting. This has been going on since Sunday.

I can understand why that would be frustrating, especially if branded searches are returning competitor products instead of your own listings.

From what you described, this may not necessarily mean the products are missing from your Shopify admin, but that the Shop app search index hasn’t fully synchronized or validated the product data yet.

A few things worth checking while waiting on escalation:

  • Confirm the products are available to the “Shop” sales channel

  • Make sure the products are active and not draft/archived

  • Verify the product status inside the Shop channel specifically

  • Check whether the product pages are indexable (not blocked by noindex tags or app-based SEO controls)

  • Ensure there are no duplicate handles, redirects, or unpublished market settings affecting visibility

I’ve also seen cases where Shop search relevance temporarily deprioritizes products from newer or recently updated catalogs until the indexing refresh completes.

Since the search query includes your store name directly, support may need to escalate this to the Shop app/search indexing team for manual review if the issue persists beyond the normal sync window.

Hopefully Shopify staff can investigate the indexing behavior more closely here.

Hey there @preserveeast,

Since you have already confirmed the product is active on your online store, here are a few specific things you can check to troubleshoot the Shop app database:

  • Check your Sales Channels. Go to your Shopify admin and click on the Shop sales channel. Look closely for any account status flags, merchant policy violations, or eligibility warnings. Shopify has strict guidelines for the Shop app, and if a store is flagged for shipping speed or compliance, its search visibility is often suppressed without a clear warning in the main dashboard.

  • Verify Channel Publishing. Open the specific seersucker patch product in your admin and look at the Publishing section on the right sidebar. Make sure the Shop channel is checked. Sometimes products are active on the Online Store but are not checked for publishing on the Shop app sales channel.

  • Force a Re-index. Try making a minor edit to the product, such as changing a word in the description or adding a new tag, and then save it. This small change can sometimes trigger Shopify to push a fresh update to the separate Shop app search index.

If everything looks perfect on your end, this is likely a backend synchronization glitch between your store database and the Shop app catalog. When you follow up with support, ask them specifically to escalate your ticket to the Shop App Channel engineering team to verify your search index synchronization.

Hope this helps.

Hey @preserveeast
Check Shop sales channel

Go to:
Shopify Admin → Settings → Apps and sales channels → Shop

Confirm:

Shop channel is installed
No setup incomplete messages
No warnings or restrictions
2. Verify product is published to Shop

Go to:
Products → Open product → Sales channels and apps

Confirm:

Shop channel is selected
Product status is Active

If not:

Enable Shop channel
Save
3. Check product status and visibility

Ensure:

Product is Active
Product is not hidden from any sales channel
Inventory is available
No location restrictions blocking visibility
4. Check Shop eligibility

Go to:
Settings → Apps and sales channels → Shop

Look for:

Policy violations
Account restrictions
Setup issues

Fix any flagged issues before continuing.

  1. Trigger re-indexing

Do a small update to the product:

Edit title slightly OR
Edit description OR
Change price slightly

Then:

Save product

Wait 24–72 hours for Shop to re-sync.

  1. Test search properly

In the Shop app search using:

Exact product name
Store name
SKU if available

Also test:

Different device
Logged out and logged in state
7. Check full catalog visibility

If no products from your store appear in Shop app:

Likely Shop catalog sync issue
Or merchant-level indexing delay
8. Wait for indexing window

Normal Shop indexing time:

24 to 72 hours
Sometimes longer during backend delays
9. Escalate if issue continues

If problem persists beyond 72 hours:

Contact Shopify Support and request:

Shop app search indexing escalation
Catalog re-index review
Engineering team investigation

Provide:

Store name
Product URL
Screenshots of Shop search failure
Exact search query used
Thank You !

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when the Shop app’s AI assistant is actively redirecting your high-intent traffic directly to competitors.

  • Force a Channel Re-Sync: Go to your Products list and click on that specific seersucker patch. On the right side under Sales Channels, click Manage and make sure the Shop channel box is explicitly checked. If it is checked, uncheck it, save, and re-check it to force a manual data refresh to the Shop app index.

  • Check Shop Channel Eligibility: Go to Sales Channels > Shop > Status inside your admin dashboard. Make sure your store hasn’t been quietly restricted for a Merchant Guidelines compliance review (such as pending business verification, shipping tracking rate thresholds, or policy updates), which instantly hides products from global search and AI parsing.

If everything looks active and green on your end, reply to this thread with your Support Ticket ID. Sharing it here allows community moderators to pull up your case logs and escalate this directly to the Shop App engineering team as a critical catalog bug.

Hello @preserveeast

This is usually related to the Shop sales channel feed and eligibility rather than search behavior. In Shopify admin, go to the Shop channel and verify the Preserve East products are truly published there, not just Online Store. Go to Markets and be sure that the products are offered in the in the same currency and region that the Shop app is using to browse. Re sync the Shop channel to force a fresh catalog update. Also check to make sure the product titles, tags, and availability are all clean, not draft, or excluded. If it still happening, try a temporary disable then re-enable Shop channel to regenerate the feed.
