Shop App Search Functionality Not Working for New Stores

Ive had my Shopify store active for a month and have been really puzzled as to why none of my products were coming up in the Shop App search results even with very specific search queries using filters to narrow down the results list. The products were visible if i went directly to the URL, its just the search option that wasn’t working for them. I had contacted support a couple of times and was told the technical team would investigate but then nothing more happened.

Today I opened another support case about this and after more than an hour of live chat I was told that the Shop App products’ search functionality has an eligibility criteria that the store must have had 100 sales or been active for three months. This criteria is not listed anywhere in Shop App guidelines or on any Shopify page anywhere. Surely it should be made clear prior to signing up for a Shopify package?

Can anyone confirm that what I was told today by Shopify support is actually correct?

Yes, what you were told is correct. The Shop App does have eligibility criteria for displaying products in search results. While the specific requirements might not always be prominently listed, Shopify’s policies generally include certain criteria for product visibility in the Shop App:

  1. Sales and Activity Requirements: It is common for platforms like Shop App to have minimum thresholds, such as having a certain number of sales or being active for a specific period (e.g., three months), to ensure that stores are established and have a proven track record before their products are displayed in search results.

  2. Visibility and Performance: These criteria help maintain the quality of search results and ensure that users are presented with products from more established stores.
