Hi, we’ve just launched our dog accessories store based in Portugal. In compliance with local regulations, we need to provide customers with the option to enter their local fiscal number (NIF) during checkout. How can I add a field for the NIF at checkout?

Hello 
The short answer is, that if you’re not on Shopify Plus, your options are severely limited. We have lots of use cases where B2B merchants will use a custom field on a customer registration form to upload a VAT/NIF ID number. Customer Fields in conjunction with enabling the setting that doesn’t allow a purchase unless the customer has a registered account might be a way to accomplish what you’re shooting for.
Additionally, it would be worth your time to take a look at Shopify’s Checkout Blocks and see what’s possible there.

If you have a Stripe account, try Easy•Pie Checkout that also supports MBWAY and Multibanco, and you can collect NIF in its form.
