"Shop by Size" option pulling from tags instead of product variants - Jadis Theme

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me with a troubleshooting problem!

I am working off an old theme called “Jadis” which I’m not sure even exists anymore. One of the reasons we chose it, is because it offered the ability to “Shop by Category” - so you could shop by size, colour, price, style etc.

However when it comes to editing the theme, it looks like these categories are pulling from tags (Image 1) instead of the information in the product description (Image 2). Shouldn’t it pull from the item listing itself where you list all the size variants? Is there a way to edit the code to fix this? Or do I really have to tag each individual product with a price, size, colour, etc. Seems like a lot of extra work, especially if a certain size sells out.

Please see the images below. I’m not sure if there is an easy workaround or if anyone has coding suggestions I could try. Has anyone used this theme before? Can anyone recommend another free theme that would offer the same capabilities? Any help is appreciated!

Yep, before Shopify 2.0 collection filtering was possible by tags only.

With 2.0 themes you can filter by variant option values.

You’d need to modify theme code to use new filtering engine and this is not a small edit. Usually it’s better to migrate to one of the newer themes because they offer much more options.

If you’ve seriously invested in this theme one option is to use one of the Auto Tag apps which assign and remove product tags based on option values, rather than adding them manually.

Thank you for the feedback, I was worried that would be the case. I think we will explore new themes under Shopify 2.0.
