Shop designer does not respond to mock-up

Hi Shopfiers!

We have hired somebody who boasted he is a good Shopify designer. Me as marketer, I have dealt with web development many times and I asked for a scope, Jira tickets, mock-ups, roadmaps and all other proper project management I am used to. My mate talked me out of it as he has heard that he is a “Shopify genius and he might not be working the way I am used to…” etc. I gave in as I thought, you can get it all off the shelf. Now that I am waiting since 8 weeks for some improvements I lost hope that he can pull it off. I did the layout of all the pages in Indesign the way I want it and I am not sure

  • what is design Shopify offers

  • what is custom design that needs to be custom coded
    Who can make an assessment and tell me if that is all possible?

Sorry to hear you’re having issues with a developer. From a quick glance it doesn’t look to in depth, but here is a list of all the free Shopify 2.0 themes so he may have used one of these as a base and done some minor edits - https://themes.shopify.com/themes?sort_by=most_recent&price%5B%5D=free&architecture%5B%5D=os2

Can’t comment more on the development as he might have done a lot of backend work, but from a design view, personally, that shouldn’t take 6 weeks.

He used the theme “Story”. We paid 280€ for that. I’ll have a look what that is capable of.

Yeah it seems they’ve made some minor changes but nothing that should take six weeks.
You could hire a shopify theme developer who would make you a theme from scratch and it would take a month or less.
