Shop invitation leads to 502 Bad Gateqay

Hey everyone,

my client just sent me an invitation to a new shop project (they already have one active). When I open the invite link, I get a 502 Bad Gateway error message.

I CAN open the shop website itself without problems. If I open the /admin page, I get the (correct) message I don’t have access to it. The 502 error only happens when I try to open the invite link. I asked the client to resend the invitation, same result. It’s been two days now and I have no idea how to fix this.

Any help appreciated!

That 502 error on an invite link usually points to a caching issue on your end or a problem with the invite token itself.

First, try opening the invite link in an Incognito or Private browsing window. This bypasses your existing cookies and cache. If that doesn’t work, try a completely different browser (e.g., if you’re using Chrome, try Firefox or Edge).

If you’re still hitting the 502, have your client resend the invite to a different email address for you. This often forces Shopify to generate a fresh, untainted token and avoids any potential issues with the previous invite or email. Sometimes Shopify’s auth servers can get stuck on old sessions or tokens, and a new email/token pair is the easiest way to clear it.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! I’ve tried all the options, and none worked. I’ve now asked the client to send the invite to a different mail address. Not ideal, but better than not having access at all
