I am using the Studio theme and entered my homepage meta title and description under the Preferences tab.
However when I search my store name or any relevant keywords that I rank for, the description appears but the title just says my shop name “Sweet Violet” with no words from the title I entered in Shopify.
I submitted it to Google through Google Search Console and it has been indexed. When I click on “view crawled page”, I can see in the code that the correct phrase shows next to “title”. I also checked it through www.metatags.io and this has the title turning up as it should.
Any ideas why it wouldn’t be showing in Google? I did use some SEO apps a while back (they have been uninstalled), could they be blocking the title tag?
What you write isn’t always what you see when you search. If you’ve checked the latest crawl has updated the page, then that’s what Google is decided to show for your location and keyword. Google will not always use your title tag, as you’ve found. Hi,
Google looks at the meta title and meta description code to determine the meta title and meta description text displayed on your website in Google. Generally, Shopify themes will have this code.
Even if your website does not have a meta title and meta description code, Google will look at the content of your website to fill in the meta text.
Another situation is that Google thinks that too many people search for a certain page of your website through some keywords, and it may appear that the search at a specific time may not be based on the meta title and meta description text you set.
