Shop Pay customers not seeing option to tip

Topic summary

Core Issue:
Shop Pay customers are unable to see the tipping option at checkout, while non-Shop Pay users can view it normally.

Key Details:

  • The tipping feature is enabled in Checkout settings but doesn’t display for Shop Pay users
  • One official response suggests tipping works with Shop Pay only when using the one-page checkout experience (requires early access signup)
  • Tipping doesn’t work with accelerated checkouts (PayPal, Apple Pay, etc.)

Additional Complications:

  • Multiple users report that enabling Shop Pay Installments causes tip options to disappear for all logged-in customers, regardless of their chosen payment method
  • Logged-in customers lose tip visibility even when selecting credit card, PayPal, or regular Shop Pay
  • Guest (non-logged-in) customers continue to see tip options normally
  • Disabling Shop Pay Installments restores normal tipping functionality
  • Regular Shop Pay (without installments) works fine with tipping

Status:
No resolution found. Multiple merchants experiencing the same problem, particularly when Shop Pay Installments is enabled. The issue appears to be a conflict between logged-in customer status, Shop Pay Installments, and the tipping feature.

I have Tips selected in my Checkout settings. If a user is not a Shop Pay customer, they see it. If they are a Shop Pay customer, it does not show tips.

Hey, @NSF .

Thanks for reaching out and bringing this to our attention.

I understand that you’re using the tipping options and Shop Pay customers aren’t able to see the tipping function. While the tipping feature doesn’t work with accelerated checkouts (eg. PayPal, Apple Pay, etc.), it does work with Shop Pay if your store is using the one-page checkout experience. If you’re interested in the one-page checkout, then simply visit the link and sign-up with your email at the bottom of the page for early access.

i have the same issue,t his is the reason why i am not using shop pay but i would like. did you find a solution yet? thank you!

We are also having this issue. Has a solution been found? Only customers using Shop Pay are not seeing the tipping option, other payment types see the option.

We have the same issue. As soon as we turned on Shop Pay instalments, when a customer tried to checkout, even before selecting the payment option, if they were logged in, they could no longer see the tip options. To be clear, this even occurs for a customer who is NOT selecting Shop Pay instalments and wants to pay via credit card, PayPal, Shop Pay normal and so on. If they stay as a guest, and not login, the tip options are still visible. We had to disable Shop Pay instalments which restored the normal functionality back.

I think you may be missing the point here. This is impacting customers who do not want to use Shop Pay Instalments.

From what we see, if the customer is a guest, then they see tip options prior to selecting a payment option. If they login, they no longer see the tip options.

If you just turn on Shop Pay without the instalments option, the tip options appear as normal.
