Shop Pay Installments (SPI) payouts are failing while regular Shopify Payments deposits succeed. Multiple merchants report failed SPI payouts clustered around Jan 27–31; banks show no issues.
Key updates:
Support acknowledged an SPI-specific incident (reported window: Jan 28–31) and told some merchants payouts would be retried by Feb 8. Mixed results followed.
By Feb 9, several merchants confirmed retried payouts arrived (e.g., a $1,200 payout), and some January failures cleared the same day. Others still report missing funds 20+ days later with tickets pending and limited visibility into “back office” review.
Impact:
Delayed access to sizable funds, bookkeeping disruptions, and cash-flow stress (bill payments at risk).
Merchant responses:
Some disabled SPI or plan to stop using it due to delays; others consider waiting until Shopify confirms stability.
Question persists whether disabling SPI affects pending payouts; peers suggest it shouldn’t, but there’s no official confirmation in-thread.
Help-center and Reddit links shared; some generic advice posts appear non-authoritative.
Status: Partially resolved. Retries have succeeded for many, but not all. Timeline for remaining failed payouts remains unclear; discussion ongoing.

Having a problem with Shop Pay Installments right now. I’ve used it for quite a while with no issues. I have never had a payout fail in my years of using Shopify. Last night, I received an email from Shopify saying that my recent payout has failed and that it’s likely an issue with my bank. My regular payouts went through fine, but the Shop Pay Installments payout failed. I haven’t changed banks at all. I contacted my bank, they saw nothing wrong on their end so I contacted Shopify support through chat. They eventually told me that there seems to be an ongoing issue with Shop Pay Installments, that I’m not the only one with the issue and it is being investigated and that I will hear from them “sometime” via email to resolve this.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue? I guess there’s nothing I can do now but wait. It is a very large payout though that will affect me being able to pay my bills for the month if it takes too long to resolve. In the meantime, should I disable Shop Pay Installments so nobody else tries to pay with it? Or will that mess up the payout I’m currently waiting on if I disable it?
I wrote about this here recently. Having the same issues. If you can click on my user name you can find my post and read the many excuses I have received.
Yes, we had the same issue. It’s quite frustrating, and makes me want to disable Installments as a payment option as it already takes much longer to receive those deposits anyway, and now this headache! It’s held up our bookkeeping for 2 weeks now.
I’m having the same issue with a large Shop Pay Installments payout from 1/31. It’s showing failed, although I have received subsequent payouts from Shopify, and I confirmed with my bank this isn’t an issue on their end. I contacted Shopify support and was told there was an issue with Shop Pay Installment payouts from 1/28-1/31 and that it was resolved and I would receive my payout by 2/8. As of today 2/9 I still haven’t received the payout, and it is still showing failed. I cannot get a straight answer as to when I will receive this money, and it’s really messing up my ability to pay bills. So disappointed in Shopify and I’m also considering disabling Shop Pay Installments.
Last night I received an email from Shopify saying that they were retrying the payout again and it did go through for me. I hope everyone else having this issue receives their money soon. My payout was $1200 which is not a small amount to be missing so I’m relieved it went through. I’m not sure if I will enable shop pay installments again though, might just stick with Klarna for payment plans.
This is giving me hope we might ever get these funds deposited!!
We have disabled shopify installments, as an in-house branded payments processing option this was a horrible experience and we’re not going to use it again.
I am currently struggling with this as well. Shopify support appears to be no help and I have been without my money for 20 days. This is how I make my living. The fact that my funds are being withheld is ridiculous. I am honestly furious with shopify at the moment. I want to get in contact with someone who can actually help me since the people I speak with on the phone tell me that the back office team won’t allow me to speak to them and they say I have to wait for them to get to my ticket. I have also messaged daily on the shopify support chat with no success. Seriously considering leaving shopify. This is my first month using their website.
My dear.I understand your frustration with the Shop Pay Installments issue. It appears to be affecting multiple users, and Shopify is actively looking into the problem. While awaiting a resolution, reaching out to your customers and explaining the situation could help manage expectations. Disabling Shop Pay Installments temporarily shouldn’t impact your current payout. Keep an eye on updates from Shopify and remain patient during this process.
I am dealing with this now ,they sent it to my bank but in somebody else’s name so my bank sent it back they keep acting like I put the information in wrong but I have verified everything was correct all my other deposits have went fine only shop pay is the one that I’m having problems with right now and it has been a nightmare this whole week communicating
I can appreciate how frustrating the Shop Pay Installments problem is for you. Numerous users seem to be affected, and Shopify is actively investigating the issue. Communicating with your clients and outlining the circumstances might assist control expectations while you wait for a solution. Your existing payment shouldn’t be impacted by temporarily disabling Shop Pay Installments. Throughout this process, keep a look out for Shopify website updates and practice patience.
This issue seems to be affecting quite a few merchants right now, so you’re definitely not alone. When payouts fail unexpectedly, it usually points to a temporary system-side problem rather than anything on your end. Since Shopify support already confirmed it’s being investigated, the safest move is probably to wait for their update before disabling Shop Pay Installments — changing settings mid-issue sometimes complicates pending payouts.
I work in the digital-creation niche (mostly helping users with editing tools like Alight Motion Pro), and I’ve seen similar payout delays on different platforms when they run into internal processing bugs. They usually resolve it without needing merchants to adjust anything manually.
Hopefully Shopify pushes a fix soon so your payout doesn’t affect your monthly budget.
