Shopify Admin Search Bar doesn't return useful Search results

Topic summary

Main issue: The global Admin search bar in Shopify (top navigation) fails to return relevant results for shipping address queries, while the Orders section search reliably surfaces all orders sent to that address.

Observed behavior: The Admin search shows fewer, vague results and omits the correct customer and related orders, instead of clearly indicating no matches. The Orders search correctly lists the customer and the orders associated with the queried address.

Use case: Staff need to identify all orders shipped to a specific location to verify if different recipients at that address have contacted support or asked product questions.

Expectation: The Admin search should have a broader scope—covering customers and orders, including those linked by shipping address—even if the customer didn’t place the order directly.

Evidence: An attached screenshot demonstrates the mismatch between Admin search and Orders search results (image supports the claim but is not required to understand the issue).

Status: No resolution or guidance provided; the question of why the two searches behave differently remains open.

I just want to know why the admin search bar up at the top of the screen doesn’t return the correct results, for which the orders search bar does return the customers that used the address that I’m searching for.

Now, I don’t mean to be foolish and simply believe that the admin search bars are referencing the same information when you use them, I just have found it incredibly frustrating when I ask the question, “What other customers in the store have been using this address to ship products too?”, and instead of being able to use the upper bar which I would think would be able to have a wider search and give me more thorough information from the customers and orders, it returns less, more vague, and useless information instead of just saying no there isn’t anything. Or, in the case of this picture below, it should have returned that this customer placed these orders at that address.

The use-case is sometimes customers use different people to ship items to their home and I have to make sure that those other people didn’t try to contact us or ask us questions regarding shipments or products. It’s super handy to have all orders that went to a location listed and the orders search menu will list them, but not the main admin search bar which should have access to more customers (even ones that didn’t place an order) that used the address in the first place. BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, the proper customer doesn’t even appear on the list.

Sincerely,
