Hi @jasonh & @GadgetsNoob , Thank you so much. I did a bit more of a deep dive into the robts.txt file on my account and realised it was a scam. And great to know now that emails other than @shopify are fake.
Topic summary
A user received a suspicious email claiming Shopify would shut down their account due to low conversion rates. The email raised immediate red flags as a potential scam.
Community Response:
- Multiple users confirmed this is 100% a phishing attempt
- Shopify never threatens account closure based on conversion rates or usage levels
- Legitimate Shopify emails only come from @shopify.com domains, never from public email services (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.)
Recommended Actions:
- Do not click any links in the suspicious email
- Delete the message immediately
- Forward phishing attempts to phishing@shopify.com to help Shopify track these scams
- Never share personal information from such emails
Resolution: The original poster investigated further (checking robots.txt file) and confirmed it was indeed a scam. They now understand that only emails from official Shopify domains are legitimate.
