We have a discount code for 10% off that customers can apply when ordering.
Then there’s a free shipping discount if they order over $150.
We do NOT want people getting 2 discounts but it’s happening.
How do we fix this?
Topic summary
Issue: Customers can stack a 10% discount code with an automatic free‑shipping offer on orders over $150. The store wants to prevent receiving two discounts at once.
Context and attempts:
- A Shopify advisor cannot verify account details via forums and directs the store to contact live support through the Help Center after logging in.
- Another participant suggests disabling any “merge/combine discounts” option in the discount settings.
Clarifications:
- One discount is a manual code (10% off). The other is an automatic free‑shipping discount triggered at $150.
- Despite this, both apply together at checkout. No solution has been found in the thread so far.
Open questions and next steps:
- The store asks if shipping is treated differently (i.e., not counted as the “one discount” limit), which may explain why it stacks with a price discount.
- Action items: contact Shopify live support for account‑specific review; review discount settings to disable any “combine/merge” options if available.
Status: Unresolved; discussion remains open.
Hey @KarenFaulkner .
Thanks for reaching out.
I appreciate the context that you have shared with us as that is very helpful. In order for us to take a further look into the discount codes, we will need to verify you as the store owner. Since I cannot authenticate you over the Community forums due to the sensitive information that needs to be shared, I am unable to view the specifics. In this case, it would be best to reach out to our live support with this inquiry.
You can get in touch with our live support by logging into your online store using the Contact Us page.
Once you successfully login, you will be directed to the Help Center. Select the topic that you would like assistance with to locate the options to Get Support and speak directly with a Support Advisor about the situation.
Let me know if you have any questions.
I’m logged into our website but I’m not sure what type of information you will need for me to answer. I didn’t set the website up. Just trying to find information on why 2 discounts would be allowed when what I’m reading says only 1 is applied through Shopify.
Hi @KarenFaulkner ,
There must be an option in the discount codes to merge these discount codes, you need to disable that option.
Thanks, I’ll look around more for that.
***Just to be clear there is a discount code that the customer uses for the 10% off.
Then there’s also an automatic discount if the customer purchases over $150.
Thank you for the tips!
We do already have an automatic free shipping discount but then they are also applying another code for the 10% off.
So far we have found no solution to this problem.
I thought Shopify was not supposed to allow 2 “discounts” and would automatically give the better deal.
Is shipping not considered a discount?
