Months ago it was the admin page. Shopify “improved” it with an entirely aesthetically driven mindset, removing much of the functionality and seriously reducing ease of workflow and access to information at a glance. They’ve since slowly added SOME of that information back and fixed some of the stranger UI features such as options showing up, nearly invisible, at the bottom of the page (made even worse by their greyed out “color” scheme), when you checked the box next to an order.
I could go on about the admin page, but suffice it to say that the developers seemed utterly uninterested in actually improving functionality. There was overwhelming disapproval of the changes by shop owners as evidenced by multiple posts and comments on here and comments on their YouTube video introducing the changes. I didn’t see one comment in support of the changes on here and VERY few comments in support of the changes on YT.
Now the Shopify app has gotten “improved.” Certainly this one is less of an impediment to my daily work flow than the admin page was and continues to be, but it certainly isn’t an improvement. It used to be that on the app you could simply swipe to see yesterday’s sales, or this week’s, or this month’s etc. It was very easy and intuitive. Now you have to hit a drop down and then select what you want. It just feels clunky and definitely is NOT an improvement that I can imagine anyone asking for.
Overall, the experiences of the last number of months has created an image of developers ensconced in their own little world, seeking kudos from other developers and having no idea what shop owners want or need. And this isn’t even about Shopify seeking more profits. They don’t make more money because they pursued a greyed out, minimalist admin page that hides the information that used to be front and center. It just seems that an insular culture of ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ has bled into the design realm and we’re just along for a very unsatisfying ride.
PS - it won’t let me post this with the “Design” label even though that label is shown as a top label on the Shopify Discussions page. I guess I’ll try “trouble shooting.”
