Shopify discounted rates not working

Hi,

I have set up and connected the DHL App with my DHL business credentials and set up the Shopify DHL discounted rates in my markets. However, I was only able to choose services for shipping within Germany, not international. My customerbase is mostly international so I need this to work. Previously I set the shipping rates manually but wanted to utilize taxesnand duties paid option.

I use Shopify Basic plan. Ansthing else does not make sense as my sales are still low and ubased on untegular drops. Any idea why it does not work?

Thanks!

Hello, @Atkins_nbh
Why you are facing this issue:

  1. Shopify Basic Plan Limitation (Carrier-Calculated Shipping): To fetch real-time international rates from third-party apps like DHL, Shopify requires a feature called “Carrier-Calculated Shipping (CCS)”. By default, this feature is disabled on the Shopify Basic plan. Without it, the app can only show local (Germany) rates or default shop settings.

  2. App Configuration: DHL has different service segments. You might have only activated DHL Paket (Domestic) instead of DHL Express or DHL Paket International inside the app settings.

  3. Duties & Taxes (DDP) Requirement: To use DDP (Duties Delivered Paid) on a Basic Plan, you cannot rely on Shopify’s native automated duty calculator (which requires higher plans/Markets Pro). It must be handled directly via the DHL App’s contract settings.

How to Fix It (Without upgrading your plan):

  • Step 1: Get CCS Activated (Crucial) You don’t need to upgrade to the expensive Advanced Plan. Contact Shopify Support via live chat and ask them to add “Third-Party Carrier-Calculated Shipping” to your Basic Plan.

    • They can add it for a small monthly fee (approx. $20 USD).

    • Tip: If you switch your Shopify billing from monthly to Annual, Shopify usually enables this feature for FREE.

  • Step 2: Check DHL App Services Go to your Shopify Admin > Apps > DHL Shipping App. Inside the app configuration, make sure you have mapped and enabled international services like DHL Paket International or DHL Express Worldwide, not just national ones.

  • Step 3: Enable DDP in DHL In your DHL business portal/app settings, ensure your account is authorized for “DTP” (Duties & Taxes Paid) or “Billing to Sender”. Once CCS is active (Step 1), the DHL app will automatically calculate these duties and show the full international DDP price at your checkout.
I hope this wiill help you.
    Thanks!

Support chatbot told me DHL Paket is integrated in Germany. Shipling rates are correctly calculated for national shipping but international doesnt work.

According to the chatbot it should cover international shipping and CSS is only necessars if I wanted to use Fedex, UPS, etc.

In the DHL app DHL Paket and DHL Paket International participations are fetched. If I setup shipping rates manually, it works and display shipping rate, taxes ans duties on checkout, but I dont want to keep track and update shipping rates of so many markets. Is it really necessary to upgrade my plan or book an addon?

Thanks!

Hey @Atkins_nbh ,
Mostly likely the issue is that your DHL app is only set up for dommestic (Germany) shipping services and international service are not enabled or included in your configuration. You should check your DHL app settings to ensure international shipping options are selected, and also verify your shopify shipping zones to confrim that the target countries are added .
If everything is correctly set but still not working try reconnecting the DHL app so the services can re sync properly
Thanks
