I am considering using Shopify to create a store; however I’m experiencing a weird css error on their homepage using google chrome. It’s only displaying the nav bar and footer. Everything else is hidden. I have attempted to clear browsing data although it didn’t work. It’s working okay on safari. Normally this would be just annoying inconvenience, although I’d hate to build a store and customers have same problem. Any idea what caused this and how to fix?
Topic summary
Shopify homepage content not rendering in Google Chrome, showing only the navigation bar and footer, while Safari displays correctly. Clearing Chrome’s browsing data did not fix the issue. Screenshots are provided, making the images central to understanding the display problem.
Proposed cause: A Chrome-specific issue rather than a Shopify platform fault.
Suggested fixes:
- Adjust or disable Chrome Ad Block extensions; whitelist the domain so ads/content aren’t blocked.
- Turn Chrome sync off and log out of the Google account, clear all browsing data, then open chrome://flags (Chrome’s experimental settings) and select “Reset all to default.”
Key terms:
- Ad Block extension: browser add-on that filters ads; can inadvertently hide page elements.
- chrome://flags: internal Chrome page to toggle experimental features; resetting can restore default behavior.
Outcome/Status: No confirmed resolution yet. Action items provided for troubleshooting; discussion remains open.
Hi BenStrachan,
Google Chrome is the problem, not Shopify. That’s why the site propagates without issues when using Safari, but does not appear properly when using Google Chrome.
Two Potential Solutions:
- Deactivate any Google Chrome "Ad Block’ Extensions - If you have downloaded a Google Chrome Ad Block extension, try customizing it by clicking on “Show ads on a webpage or domain”, then enter the desired webpage address into the “The domain or URL where AdBlock shouldn’t block anything field”, then hitting the “OK!” button.
Option Two:
- Turn sync off and completely log out of your Google account.
- Clear all browsing data.
- Then, go to — chrome://flags
- Click “RESET ALL TO DEFAULT”. You will find that tab/button at the very top right-hand section of the page.
Good luck,
