Shopify launched a free Agentic Commerce Readiness scanner - here is what it found, and what to do next

Shopify quietly launched commerce-readiness.shopify.io - a free, no-login scanner that runs 31 checks on any public storefront across five categories: AI discoverability, product schema, transaction readiness, trust signals, and operational maturity. Just paste a product URL and it runs in about 30 seconds.

I ran it across several stores I work with and the results are consistent. The three gaps that surface almost every time are:

  1. Missing llms.txt (the file that tells AI agents what your store sells and who it is for)
    1. Incomplete product schema (JSON-LD missing fields AI uses to understand and recommend products)
      1. Thin policy content (short or missing privacy, returns, and shipping pages that AI checks before recommending a store)
    3. The gap the tool does not close
  3. The scanner is genuinely useful for diagnosing. It tells you what is broken and ranks it by priority. But it does not fix anything. That is where most merchants get stuck. They see the score, understand the priorities, and then either need a developer or abandon the process entirely.
