Shopify native solution to the EU Withdrawal legislation

Just in case nobody has suggested it, I would like to suggest that shopify implements a native solution to the EU Withdrawal legislation. Surely, this has to be something that shopify is addressing? However, it is not clear to me whether or not this is happening. We have put in place an interim solution, but if anyone at shopify reads this, can you please reply?

It’s a valid concern—Shopify should ideally provide a native compliance solution for EU Withdrawal legislation, but since it’s unclear if this is underway, your interim fix is sensible until Shopify confirms or implements an official approach.

Hi there, this is Linette from SearchPie: SEO, Speed & Schema

I completely understand your concern. Keeping up with strict EU consumer laws can be a real headache.

While Shopify does not have one specific feature labeled “EU Withdrawal,” they actually offer two native tools that work together to help you comply.

First, if you go to your admin and click Settings > Policies, Shopify provides a localized, legally compliant template for the EU Right of Withdrawal. You can generate this and add it directly to your checkout and website footer so customers are properly informed.

Second, you can turn on Shopify’s native Self-Serve Returns feature. This lets you set a strict 14-day return window. Your EU customers can simply log into their account and click a button to initiate their right to return, which perfectly satisfies the withdrawal legislation without you needing to pay for a third-party app.

It would be amazing if Shopify bundled this into a single “EU Compliance” setup button, but using these two native features should cover exactly what you need right now.

Hope this helps!

Hey @Niina .
Hope you are having a fantastic day.
That’s a good point to raise.

There is no native EU withdrawal feature yet, so your interim fix is needed for now.
to get noticed,
Post in admin, go to help, then feedback, mention the EU right of withdrawal by name.

Also, worth checking if any compliance apps already cover this better than a manual workaround.

Hi there @Niina
As a Shopify partner, plenty of merchants process EU withdrawal requests by combining the default customer privacy tools with Shopify Flow. Common workflow is to receive the requests through a simple contact form, tag the customer profile, then let Flow trigger customer data erasure and export procedures. For stores not using Flow, a privacy app that centrallizes GDPR style requests can help bridge the gap and keep records in order. This solution provides a practical temporary solution for a fully native automation.
