Shopify Not Tracking TikTok/Meta Traffic (Registers Only 3%) — Issue Started in August After Supplier/Code Change. Tried EVERYTHING

Since August, Shopify has been registering only about 3 percent of the traffic coming from my TikTok and Meta ads, even though both ad platforms report hundreds of visitors per day. Before August, the tracking was almost perfectly aligned (for example, 4,300 TikTok visits versus 4,280 Shopify sessions). The problem began immediately after switching suppliers, adding custom liquid code, and using a supplier app that injected scripts into my store. Since then, I have tested every possible variable to isolate the issue, including entirely rebuilding my setup from scratch. Despite this, the problem continues across all new stores, all new domains, all new pixels, and all new ad accounts. Shopify support attributes the issue to “bot filtering,” while TikTok and Meta support claim it is a “difference in definitions,” but neither explanation fits the sudden and extreme 97 percent drop that started in a specific month. I’m trying to understand whether Shopify is incorrectly filtering valid traffic, whether TikTok or Meta are delivering synthetic or preloaded visits, or whether something deeper is broken at the account or session-validation level.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Creating multiple new Shopify stores

  • Creating new TikTok and Meta ad accounts

  • Creating new pixels on both platforms

  • Testing brand new domains

  • Testing 30+ different URLs and landing pages

  • Completely removing all apps and scripts

  • Removing all custom liquid code

  • Testing multiple clean themes, including blank themes

  • Switching suppliers again and removing supplier-related scripts

  • Optimizing speed and checking for redirects or code conflicts

Hey there,

It seems like you have tried every possible solution.

But I noticed you have not tried using dedicated Pixel apps?

A dedicated pixel app centralizes and controls your tracking setup, ensuring:

  • Only one instance of each pixel fires.

  • Event IDs and deduplication (especially for TikTok and Meta CAPI) are handled automatically.

  • You can easily audit exactly what events are being sent, and from where.

So, instead of Shopify, random apps, and custom scripts all injecting tracking independently, you’d have one source of truth. Using dedicated apps means you reduce the number of custom scripts, supplier-scripts, theme edits, etc, that might be causing conflicts.

I recommend using TikTok Pixels by AdNabu (completely free) and Meta & Facebook Pixels by Nabu.

Here’s how the apps can help:

TikTok Pixel’s one -

  1. Easy installation of TikTok Pixel on Shopify with no coding or theme edits.
  2. Create/manage unlimited TikTok Pixels.
  3. Track full conversion values including tax & shipping, and key events from “Page View” through “Purchase”.
  4. Supports advanced matching and error-free data for improving TikTok Ad performance.

Meta Pixels one -

  1. One-click or easy installation of Facebook/Meta/Instagram Pixels on Shopify without manual theme edits.
  2. Server-side tracking via Meta’s Conversion API to bypass iOS14+ / browser tracking limitations.
  3. Advanced matching of customer data for better audiences and attribution.
  4. Track multiple events: Add to Cart, Begin Checkout, Purchase etc.
  5. Support for multiple pixels on one store (if you use multiple ad accounts) and analytics dashboards.

Let me know if you have any questions.
