I invested a full month setting up my Shopify store and running ads. After just two sales, Shopify Payments was disabled. I submitted all required documents, and support told me this was a routine verification that would take 2 days.

It has now been 5 days, Payments is still inactive, and I haven’t received any updates. My customers cannot check out, my ad budget is being wasted, and I’m losing sales.

I spoke with 5 support agents, but all I hear is: ‘We cannot reach the verification team, you just have to wait.’

How long does this verification process really take? This delay is seriously damaging my business and I need urgent assistance. Ticket Number: 34044475-c99e-4087-aa8e-173db58cfc22

Hi Milla, :waving_hand:

I can imagine how stressful this must feel especially after putting in the work to set up your store and run ads. Unfortunately, when Shopify Payments is disabled pending verification, only the internal Risk/Verification team can re-enable it. Frontline support agents don’t have access to speed that up, which is why they can’t give you a definite timeline.

A few points that might help:

Verification usually takes 2–5 business days, but if extra checks are needed, it can take longer.

Since you’ve already provided the documents and your ticket number (thanks for sharing it), the best thing you can do is keep your support ticket active and request an escalation for visibility.

In the meantime, you could temporarily enable a backup payment method (like PayPal or a third-party provider) so customers can still check out while Shopify completes the review.

I know waiting is frustrating, but this process is standard across payment providers for compliance reasons. Hopefully the verification team finalizes your case soon. :white_check_mark:

I know how stressful that feels your store being live but checkout disabled is basically like burning ad spend. The 2-day estimate is the standard, but in reality I’ve seen verification take anywhere from 2–10 business days, depending on how quickly the account review team responds. Regular support agents don’t have direct access to that team, which is why they keep giving you the ‘please wait’ answer.

A couple of things that sometimes speed it up:

•Reply directly to the last email Shopify sent you with your ticket number in the subject line (this flags your case back to the verification team).

•Try reaching out to @ShopifySupport on Twitter/X — public cases often get prioritized.

•As a backup, make sure you have an alternate payment gateway (like PayPal, Stripe, or a third-party provider) connected so you don’t completely lose sales while waiting.

I’ve worked with other store owners during this same issue, so if you’d like, I can walk you through exactly how to set up a fallback pay.

It’s really comforting to know that I’m not alone in this. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed reply. I’ve been waiting for 5 days just for adding one payment method. Honestly, I’m afraid to try adding another one now :frowning: I really hope this issue gets resolved soon. Before starting with Shopify, I spent days watching training videos and reading through all the procedures. That’s why this situation not only surprised me but also made me really upset :frowning: I just hope everything gets fixed soon.

Thank you so much for your kind advice and support. I’ll follow what you suggested, and I really hope this gets resolved soon. Your message made me feel better — I truly appreciate it.

Hey @MillaKcr,

I can understand the situation. But we cannot clarify the exact date and time when the Verification team, will take a look. Sometime it takes weeks or even months.

But for instance I highly suggest to create a new store in which you can upload your products and use the details of your Family Members.

Thanks

This is terrible news; if so, I think it’s time to move to another platform. This is a serious problem. We’re racing against time, and we can’t grow with such minor issues.

I’m really glad I could ease your mind a bit I know how stressful these issues can be. While Shopify sorts out the Payments verification, one thing you might consider is setting up a reliable fallback payment option. That way, your customers can still check out and you won’t lose sales while waiting.

I actually help store owners set up things like this, so if you’d like, I can walk you through it or even set it up for you. It’ll give you peace of mind knowing you’re not stuck if Shopify delays again. Would you like me to share the best fallback method for your type of store?

I totally understand your point growth shouldn’t be held back by things like this. That’s why many store owners I work with either set up a backup payment system inside Shopify or, when it really makes sense, migrate to a platform that’s better suited for their model.

Since you’re already investing in ads and growth, it might be worth setting up a safety net so your sales don’t get stuck again. I can walk you through the exact process I use to help my clients — so even if Shopify Payments is down, your business keeps running.

Do you want me to outline how that would look for your store?

I’m thinking of installing Stripe, but I think I’ll need to create a Shopify payment account first. I don’t want that. I’ll have to wait for approval for Shopify payment. I don’t want to use Paypal either.Thank you for your help.

I hear you waiting on Shopify Payments can feel like a trap, and PayPal isn’t the best option for every business either. The good news is, you don’t have to be stuck between those two.

There are other gateways (including Stripe, but also a few reliable alternatives) that can be integrated directly into Shopify without you needing Shopify Payments first. That way, you can accept card payments smoothly and keep your sales flowing while avoiding these roadblocks

I’ve helped other store owners in the exact same situation set up a working payment system so they don’t lose sales or get blocked by Shopify’s delays. If you’d like, I can guide you through the exact setup and even handle the heavy lifting for you so you can just focus on running ads and growing.

Want me to share the options that would work best for your store?

Hey Milla, :slightly_smiling_face:

I totally get why you’re feeling frustrated — you’ve put in so much work, and then something unexpected like this happens, adding even more stress. I’m really glad my message helped a little bit.

You’re definitely not alone, and I can assure you that the verification team is usually thorough but focused on resolving these cases as soon as possible. I know the delay is incredibly frustrating, especially when you’ve done everything by the book.

As for adding another payment method, I understand the hesitation, but it might actually be worth giving it a shot if you haven’t already. Just keep an eye out for any potential issues. If you don’t feel comfortable adding it yourself, you could also reach out to Shopify support again and request a follow-up, especially mentioning the ticket number and the urgency due to the lost sales.

In the meantime, if you want to explore any other workarounds or if you have any other questions, feel free to reach out! I’m here to help. Hang in there, Milla! This will get sorted out soon. :muscle:

Best,
Sulyman

Hey Milla

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going on your end. Has there been any update from the Shopify verification team regarding your payment issue?

I know situations like this can take longer than expected, and it can feel really discouraging but I hope things are moving forward for you. If you’ve tried any new steps (like adding another payment method or reaching back out to support), I’d love to hear how that went.

Also, if you’re still stuck or need a second opinion on anything, I’m happy to help however I can.

Hang in there, you’ve got this

Best regards,
Sulyman

Hi Sulyman,

I’ve been messaging support every single day, but they keep telling me that they “don’t have direct contact with the verification team” and that I just need to wait. They seem powerless in this situation, so all I can do right now is wait.

I haven’t added another payment method yet. I’m considering Stripe, but I think I would need to cancel Shopify Payments first, and I’ve already been waiting 11 days. That’s why I want to hold on a little longer. I’m also worried that if I switch to Stripe, get a couple of sales, and then they trigger another verification process, my losses would be even greater this time.

Honestly, I wish Shopify had been clear from the very beginning—when signing up and setting everything up—that there’s a verification process and that it can take this long. My ad campaigns went to waste, I lost customers, and it’s really demoralizing.

totally understand why you’re holding back — 11 days of waiting is already a lot, and switching too quickly might feel risky. Here’s the good news: on Shopify, you don’t have to “cancel” Shopify Payments to add Stripe or another processor. You can set up a fallback method (like Stripe or PayPal) alongside Shopify Payments, so your checkout isn’t blocked while verification is pending.

Stripe also does routine verifications, but usually, if your documents are clear and your business setup is straightforward, it goes smoother. The key is making sure your business info, bank account, and ID match perfectly to avoid delays.

If I were in your shoes, I’d keep Shopify Payments pending, but add Stripe as a backup so you can keep selling instead of losing ad spend. That way, your customers can still check out, and you won’t feel “stuck waiting.”

If you’d like, I can walk you through the exact setup step-by-step so you don’t run into any surprises.

guess I’ll need to do this through the “add payment method” option, right?
