I’m writing this on behalf of many Shopify merchants in India who have been waiting for Shopify Payments to become available here.
India has a huge and fast-growing e-commerce ecosystem, and thousands of Indian merchants use Shopify every day. However, we still have to rely on third-party payment gateways, which can mean additional transaction fees, more complicated setups, and limitations when selling internationally.
Many Indian Shopify users have been requesting Shopify Payments for a long time.
Could the Shopify team please clarify:
- - Is Shopify Payments planned for India?
- - Are there any regulatory, banking, or compliance requirements currently preventing the launch?
- - Is there anything Indian merchants or the Shopify community can do to support or accelerate availability?
- - If possible, can Shopify provide even a general update or roadmap?
We understand that launching a payment infrastructure in a new country involves regulations, banking partnerships, compliance, risk management, and many other factors. We are not asking for an exact launch date if Shopify cannot provide one.
But an official update would be extremely valuable.
