Shopify payments - US LLC partnership

Topic summary

A Wyoming LLC partnership—co-owned by a US LLC and a non-US resident—is unable to complete the Shopify Payments application because the non-resident partner lacks a Social Security Number (SSN).

Proposed Solutions:

  • One user suggests using a Stripe account as an alternative payment processor (link provided).
  • Another user mentions applying for an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) as a potential workaround.

Additional Complications:

  • If the US single-member LLC owner and the non-resident are the same person, the structure may not qualify as a valid US partnership for tax purposes, creating further obstacles.

The discussion remains open with no definitive resolution on how to activate Shopify Payments under this ownership structure.

Hi,

we have Wyoming LLC partnership company which is owned by WY US LLC and one none US resident. We would like to activate shopify payments, but as co-owner none US resident don’t have SSN we are unable finish our application. Is there any comprehensive solution on how to apply for shopify payments as a US partnership LLC company or what should we do to be able to apply for shopify payments without US resident as a US LLC partnership company.

Any usefull suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

J.

If you missed your opportunity to apply for an ITIN, also an LLC taxed as a partnership, if the US SM LLC DE owner and the non-resident are the same, that does not equal a US partnership. More issues.
