The built-in product section in the Abandoned Checkout email template (Shopify Messaging) should be clickable and link back to the specific product page — not just to checkout. This is critical for merchants who sell personalized products using custom Liquid codes, because customers need to return to the product page to re-enter their personalization before checking out. Without fixing this issue, the Recover Abandoned Checkout emails and Flow are completely useless for those who sell personalized products. I do not wish to pay a third party app for this. Shopify needs to fix this issue. Please! And Thank you!
And this would apply to Recover Abandoned Checkout and Recover Abandoned CART emails.
What kind of customizations do you have going on?
Line item properties persist in the abandoned checkout flow. So I’m curious what kind of personalizations you’re talking about. Abandoned checkout is for a certain purpose: to resume the checkout, not go back to the product. It could be that abandoned checkout isn’t what you’re looking for, or you could do with some updating on the product page to require whatever it is you’re doing. Can you explain a specific example?
Personalized products - where a customer can add their name etc to a product. That personalization entered by the customer does not appear in the Recover Abandoned checkout/ cart emails that they receive. The button link that they would click on in the default email to complete the checkout process takes them directly to checkout without any personalization saved. So as a seller, I would receive an order for a personalized product without the personalized details that the buyer would have entered while browsing and checking out.. before they abandon the cart/ checkout process. Hope that makes sense. And there is no way for them to go back to the product page of the specific product that they had in their cart. So it’s pretty annoying. Hope Shopify can work on this.
That’s interesting, and certainly not standard from my experience… It’s been a while since I’ve intentionally tried to test and abandoned checkout.
Here’s a screenshot of an abandoned checkout I just made on my store, with some customizations including an upload, a checkbox, a text input, and a preview. The link in the top right corner, the checkout url, should be the same link in the email, which should verify whether or not the customer did in fact have the customizations present at checkout.
Hey there @Viv1
That is a reasonable constraint for the standard checkout recovery template. A good solution though is to customize the email in Notifications, and replace the product block with a line item loop, that will create Product URLs, based on the line item product handle. So that each item will have a link back to the product page to add again the personalization. If you want more flexibility, you can use Shopify Flow plus a custom email template through Shopify Email or an app like Klaviyo for full control over link structure, no need to use third party recovery apps.
