Shopify Plus / QBO Connector - B2B

Topic summary

Manufacturer aims to use Shopify Plus for B2B alongside QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Katana (production planning/inventory). Orders and payments sync to QBO, but new customers and items from Shopify aren’t creating in QBO; inventory approach for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods is unclear.

Guidance: Evaluate Shopify–QBO integration apps via the app store, contact vendors with a clear requirements list, and run structured trials. If needs are specific, consider custom apps or middleware; note OAuth limits simple piping via Shopify Flow.

Concrete app suggestions: ConnectBooks, Pabbly Connect, and Webgility for two-way sync (including customers and items), not just orders. These target the customer/item creation gap.

Inventory approach: Use Shopify for finished goods inventory only. Manage raw materials and WIP in Katana; connect Katana to Shopify for sales stock and to QBO for accounting.

For full end-to-end connectivity (orders, items, customers, inventory), consider middleware like Celigo or APPSeCONNECT. No final resolution; next steps are app shortlisting/testing and evaluating Katana plus middleware for complete integration.

Hello,

We are a manufacturer with e-commerce and wholesale sales channels. We currently use Shopify Plus for our e-commerce/B2C sales channel and it has satisfied our needs quite well. We are now working to leverage Shopify Plus for our wholesale/B2B sales channel in tandem with QBO as our accounting platform. Additionally, we have plans to leverage Katana for production planning and inventory control.

We are struggling to connect Shopify Plus and QBO, though. We can create orders in Shopify Plus and they do populate in QBO, and payment activities are working fine between the two platforms as well.

Where we are struggling is with new customer and item creation in Shopify Plus (not populating in QBO) and inventory control (unsure of the best way to approach raw material, WIP, and finished good inventory in Shopify Plus and connecting this to QBO). Which app(s) have you seen success with when connecting Shopify Plus and QBO?

For third party issues contact that third party.

Hi @SeanAtSchuil :waving_hand:
If there are specific needs you just have to do the leg work and step through the shortlist of apps that offer integrations between X and Y and contact their support DIRECTLY of each app with a consistent and clear requirements list.
Then test the actual apps in a repeatable process to find what works and what you can afford for something built for off-the-shelf consumption.

Otherwise your in the territory of custom apps, middleware, or lowcode-services as needs become more and more specific.
Especially when third party api’s uses Oauth, with no basic auth option, so you can’t just pipe things directly from shopify using shopify-flow etc.

To solve this issue you can use ConnectBooks, Pabbly Connect, or Webgility to sync new customers and items from Shopify Plus to QBO. These apps do full two-way sync, not just orders.

Shopify handles finished goods inventory well, but not raw materials or WIP. You can also use Katana for all production inventory, it links to Shopify for sales stock and to QBO for accounting.

Add middleware like celigo or appse connect to connect Shopify, Katana, and QBO fully for orders, items, customers, and inventory.

Hope this will help!!
