Shopify POS app(Android) - 1st install - App is stuck on Switching Location - Fetching retail roles

I just installed the Shopify POS app on my Samsung Galaxy Note20. It goes through the install and Login screens just fine. I have tried clearing data and cache. Uninstall/Reinstall.

I also tried switching from Wi-Fi to Phone Network. That did not help. Always stuck at “Fetching retail roles” for 20+ minutes.

Has anyone else ran into a similar issue?

I had the same issue yesterday with a new POS install on a Samsung Galaxy S21. Today when I try again, it never makes it past the “Setting Up…” message, so it’s not even making it as far today as it did yesterday.

I’m the same, have tried on my Samsung S20FE mobile and TabA Tablet and both are stuck on ‘fetching retail roles…’

Hopefully the Shopify support team see this thread and fix the bug!
All somewhat helpful information I found advised to report the issue via the app but cant do that when it wont go pass the initialization!

I left a review comment in Google Play that has not been responded to either. :disappointed_face:

I was having the same issue and chatted with support and this is what they told me to do after trying lots of things and this worked:

Can you access the Shopify admin right now? Go to Settings > Users and Permissions and click into the store profile and create a POS PIN number and Save.

  • Then close the POS app down (and fully close the app on the device) > then reopen it again and try to log back in

It was not enough for me to just fully close the app. I had to uninstall and reinstall and this time it worked.

@samsigaga can you provide some more detail on this? It seems you have to add staff and then grant POS access to that staff member to generate the PIN you mention? Is that what you did? (I don’t have staff, so looking for another way if possible). I’m also on POS Lite (not PRO) so maybe that’s why I’m still having trouble.

Click your name and scroll down and it will have the password. I am also on lite.
