Widespread POS instability on iPads following a recent iOS update. POS = point-of-sale; iOS = Appleās iPad operating system.
Core issues: onāscreen keyboard frequently disappears, making checkout and receipt entry difficult. Barcode scans are truncated or misread, and inventory search becomes unusable.
Behavior change with duplicate barcodes: instead of prompting, POS autoāselects a product when multiple items share a barcode. Merchants report it often picks the first-created or outāofāstock item.
Additional regressions: cart images not displaying and single scans sometimes adding two line items. One merchant also notes the product default status shifting from Draft to Active, publishing incomplete products and disrupting workflows.
Workarounds: using an iPad that wasnāt updated, locking/unlocking the screen to restore the keyboard, and frequent device restarts. These are inconsistent and not a fix.
Support and status: chat agents say the issue is known and under investigation; one suggested regenerating duplicate barcodes and restickering, which merchants deem impractical given scanner misreads. A staff member advises submitting ināapp reports; reports of keyboard issues persist two years later on the latest POS. No rollback or definitive fix announced; issue remains open.

Hi there, since the last IOS update 2 weeks ago, we have major problems with Shopify POS running on 2 different iPad pros.
The virtual keyboard disappears many times. Our whole inventory is unsearchable. Barcode scanners are scanning 1/3 of the barcode which gives us false scans.
We set up a regular iPad that was not updated and works for the moment. However, we would like to have our large iPad pros up and running.
Our POS is doing the same thing post update. Scan an item in, and if multiple products have the same barcode number they pos automatically selects one item instead of asking us to choose the correct item like it used to do. Itās always the wrong item and seems to default to the first item made that shares the barcode so itās often something no longer in stock (irrelevant, but this is what we have noticed).
Our POS is doing the same thing.. keyboard not showing up at all! Items scanning weird. Have you found a solution yet? Trying to chat with shopify now..
We are having the same problem, please keep reaching out directly to Shopify chat line so they will push this up the list of things to fix! We have been told on chat that they are aware of the issue and are working on it, but I think the more people asking for help with this is better.
What a stupid solution. For me, that literally doesnāt do anything because the scanner itself is not correctly scanning any barcode. it will literally skip digits. Frustrating that they think this will solve it.
Same here, lots of issues since the new update , items added to chart no longer show images , adding one item sometimes inexplicably adds two. If the update is going to make everything worse , why update at all ? And the least they can do is to roll back the update and hire some QA. What a joke
What about the default changing on products from draft to active? We have individual/ one of a kind items. We will often do pictures , etc, but are waiting on the item to be in store. Then we create barcodes, print them, and make the product āactiveā.
I was off for a week, and have a huge mess. No warning that a basic default was changing, or option to change it back.
I now have inventory double entered, floor items without barcodes. Products online without pictures or price.
I spent a long time setting up a system for our store, and itās just gone. We sometimes get over 60 consignment items a day.
I reached out to Shopify, and support wasnāt even aware of the default change.
I can see where other businesses might want an āactiveā default, but then you make that an option in settings.
2 years later and Iām having the same issue. Iām using an iPad Air 4th gen. with the latest POS update. Iām usually checking someone out and trying to send them a receipt vis text or email and the keyboard will disappear and Iāll have to lock the screen and open backup and the keyboard will come back.
Thank you for joining the thread and bringing this to our attention.
As the keyboard disappearing may be a more widespread issue on iOS, weād recommend restarting the device more frequently to see if that can help resolve the issue. However, if the issue continues to persist, then you can send a report from the Shopify POS so that our Technical teams can take a closer look.
If you have any other questions on this topic, then donāt hesitate to let us know.
