Previous builds of Shopify POS would abide by the global Auto-Lock in the IOS display and brightness. It has since been updated to override that. Now the Ipad screen gets accidentally left on after store close all of the time!
Wish there was a toggle to override the global setting or not in the POS settings. Or at least choose times… It would be great to have it turn off automatically after an hour or two.
Does anyone know a work around??
Have you checked Menu → Settings → Display → Screen lock in the Shopify POS app? It now has its own inactivity timer separate from the iPad’s Auto-Lock setting. You should be able to select a time there.
Hmm. I was fiddling with it before posting and I’m positive that was not in the Screen Lock settings in the app. I had even checked in the iOS app settings before posting to see if there was something in there that I could be missing. I’m at home now, so I can’t check…
How recent was the update that added this?! Man… If it was today and I missed it, what an embarrassing post!
No need to be embarrassed at all, Shopify changes and rolls out settings quite often, and they may appear at different times depending on the app version. Check again when you’re back at the store, and make sure the POS app is updated. Hopefully the option is there now!
At the shop right now. So, while I do have it set to have the screen auto-lock after 10 minutes and return to the pin entry screen, that doesnt mean the screen necessarily turns off after. The global settings would turn the screen off after 15 minutes of inactivity on the pin screen, and that seems to be modified in one of these last updates.
It just kind of hurts when you come in on monday and find that the pin screen has been displayed since saturday night.
If Shopify POS is overriding the iOS Auto-Lock even on that screen, it sounds like a recent behaviour change or bug. For now, manually locking the iPad at closing may be the only reliable workaround. I’d also report it to Shopify Support with your POS app and iOS versions.
Hi @THIS_Skateshop
You’re not alone. Shopify POS is intended to keep the screen awake while using the store actively, but if that’s causing issues on close, a practical solution is to apply Guided Access or an iPad Shortcut with a schedule Focus mode to remind staff to lock the device. Some retailers also have locking the iPad down as part of their end of day closing routine and checklist. A timable screen blanking out in POS would certainly be a nice feature.
Was playing with Guided Access a while, but we need to be able to swap to the timecard punch in app as well. Focus mode might be able to solve the issue… but will have to play around with it.
I will also contact Shopify Support to see if the issue is just with my iOS version or possibly something else.
