Shopify Product Category not showing after upgrade from Dev Plan

Hello, I’m facing an issue with the automatic product category assignment via Shopify Magic.

In my first store, every time I uploaded new products (even tens of thousands at once), the product category field would automatically populate after a few minutes — very efficient and helpful.

However, in my new store, which I recently upgraded from a Developer Plan to a paid Basic subscription plan, this feature still hasn’t been enabled — and it’s been several days. This store already has over 2,000 products, but the product category recommendation is still not working.

I understand that this feature is part of Shopify Magic, and that it requires a paid subscription to be available. But since I’ve already upgraded and waited, I’m wondering:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Are there any other ways or workarounds to get Shopify Product Category recommendations automatically?

Any advice, app suggestions, or clarification from Shopify staff would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @WCheng ,

Shopify Magic’s automatic product category assignment should activate shortly after upgrading to a paid plan, but delays or syncing issues can sometimes occur, especially with larger catalogs. Since you’ve waited several days with over 2,000 products and the feature still isn’t working, it may be a backend issue that requires Shopify’s attention. As a workaround, you can try using third-party apps like Ablestar Bulk Product Editor or Matrixify, which offer bulk editing and category mapping tools to help automate product categorization. However, the best step is to contact Shopify Support directly to confirm your store is properly set up for Shopify Magic and to get assistance resolving the delay.

Thanks!
