Hi i am currently tryi g to switch over from the Brooklyn theme to Refresh theme. I want to customize each product page and as such i added the necessary metafields to each product pages so that i can use the dynamic source option. My issue is that when ever i edit a product page with it’s respective dynamic source it automatically applies to ALL the other collections/ products. In short, i want each product in a specific collection to have their own list of ingredients, description, use, etc but when i edit one it’s like i edit all. How can I fix this?
Hi @KJcosmeticsco ,
Please send your site and if your site is password protected, please send me the password. I will check it.
My site is kjcosmeticscompany.com and i am currently running the Brooklyn theme. I am in the process of editing the Refresh theme so i can publish it
Hi @KJcosmeticsco ,
Because the product page you all use chooses the same template, it could be ‘Default page’.
If you want to display the page with a different layout, you need to create a new template for it and select the new template at the Products Admin.
Hope it helps!
Hi there @KJcosmeticsco . I’m happy to help you out with this! What type of products do you sell and how are you hoping to design your product pages?
@LitCommerce is correct that this is likely happening because you are editing your Default product template within your theme editor. When you make changes within your theme editor you are actually editing a specific template that is applied to any product, page, collection, etc. using that template. By default, your Default product template is used for all of your products unless it’s changed manually so any changes you make to this template in your theme editor will be applied to all of your products. You can read more about using templates on this page.
When you are making changes to a specific product you will want to edit that information in the product details page in your Shopify Admin instead. To get get here you’ll want to go to Products and then click on the product you want to edit. That being said, if you are trying to edit areas that don’t exist in the product details page, for example an area for “ingredients” or “materials”, this is when you will want to use metafields. Metafields allow you to save and dispay information that is not usually captured in your Shopify admin. We have a guide on using metafields here, but there are ultimately three steps at the moment:
- Add or create the metafield definition following these steps here.
- Add the metafield value to the correct part of your store following these steps here.
- Connect metafields to your theme to display specialized information on your online store following these steps here.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
