Shopify Save & Publish buttons are grayed out every time I try to do something

I go and add an image and the Publish button is on. When I added the image then the Publish buttons turns to being grayed out. This happens every time I try to do something. Thanks in advance!

Hi, @jvansportswear !

Welcome to Shopify Community. My name is Olivia and I work here.

I appreciate your question and I’d love to help you figure this out. From the sounds of your question, you might be experiencing this in our Theme Editor (Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize Theme)?

If so, it is completely normal for the save button to consistently ‘gray out’ due to auto-save features. This is to provide you with the best user experience, and to prevent you from having to hit ‘save’ after every single change.

It’s a really good idea to double-check that the button is grayed out before exiting the Theme Editor screen. In case you get in the habit of not having to click save, we have a great prompt for unsaved changes if you were to leave the page as such:

With that being said, if you find that your changes are not automatically saving and you are unable to manually save, you may need to clear the cache and cookies of an updated browser and try again.

P.S. You might also enjoy these theme customization tips to create the most unique shopping experience for your customers.

Warm regards,

So, I notice most times to save a page it has PUBLISH button, and once in awhile it will have a SAVE button. So I finally got the SAVE button to show up and I was able to finally save my pages. I accidently clicked the x and it closed. I went to try again, now the PUBLISH button is back and I go to remove an image the PUBLISH button is on, I click on an image and the PUBLISH button turns to gray. This is now also happening when I get the SAVE button to show up to. This does not seem normal if you ask me. I did clear my Cache, still the same thing. I need this to stop so I can get my website up and running. Thanks in advance, Don Herbert

Disregard my messages… I figured it all out. I wasn’t clicking on the word SELECT. I was only selecting the image. Thank you for your help!

Thank you for that update, @jvansportswear .

I’m so glad you were able to sort that out, but if any other questions come up in the future don’t hesitate to reach back out to me.
