Shopify Scripts dead on June 30 — that's 2 months away. 5 mistakes to avoid before it's too late

Writing this because I keep seeing people in this sub who still haven’t started their Scripts migration — and the deadline is closer than most realize.

June 30, 2026. That’s literally 2 months away.

If your Shopify Plus store is still running Scripts for discounts, shipping rules, or payment logic — July 1st, it all stops working. No warning, no grace period, hard stop.

5 mistakes I’d warn anyone about:

1. Don’t assume it’s a copy-paste job Scripts run in Ruby, Functions run in a WASM sandbox. Your logic needs rethinking, not just porting.

2. The 5ms execution limit is real Complex conditional logic will silently fail inside Functions. Audit your Scripts before you rewrite anything.

3. Test with real customer data Staging with dummy accounts hides bugs. Customer tags, metafields, and B2B rules all behave differently in production.

4. Use official Shopify docs, not old tutorials The Functions API has changed a lot. Most 2023–2024 blog posts are outdated and missing key parameters.

5. Run Scripts and Functions in parallel before cutting over We did 2 weeks of overlap before switching completely. Worth every extra day.

With 2 months left, if you haven’t audited your Scripts yet — start this week. Complex migrations easily take 4–6 weeks to do properly.
