When you’re adding your products make sure you’re selecting a product category the product is in. (Will be on the right side of the page) Find product category and type in/select an option. I guess this helps identify the product. Anyway, afterwards your search bar should be up and running! No apps needed.
If your Shopify search bar is not working and products aren’t appearing in results, one often-overlooked fix is assigning a proper Product Category inside Shopify admin.
Here’s what to check:
-
Go to Shopify Admin → Products
-
Open a product that is not appearing in search
-
On the right-hand side, locate “Product category” (under Find product category)
-
Type to search and select the most relevant category
-
Save the product
Several merchants have reported that once product categories were assigned correctly, search functionality started working immediately no apps, no code changes required.
Why this works:
Shopify uses structured product data (including categories) to better understand and index products. If categories are missing, products may not behave correctly in search results.
No third-party apps needed
No theme edits required
Fully resolved within Shopify admin
If your search is still misbehaving after this, then it’s worth checking visibility settings, metafields like seo.hidden or Search & Discovery configurations but start with product categories first.
This works for me I got this solution from this blog - Shopify search shows no results hope it works for you as well.
