Shopify support fails

I was hoping to move my entire storefronts to shopify, but wound up staying for the most part with paypal. Because even in the worst of times I can get support from paypal and "TALK’ to a real person.

On shopify getting help is limited to chat bots and occasional off shore people who don’t understand or who cant help.

My stores aren’t big but we do over 2 mil per year. and I though to shopify would reduce fees and simplify things, but it did the opposite

even now trying to post this, it won’t let me - keep getting pop up boxes saying fix issues and I don’t see any issues…

SHOPIFY do you hate people that much?

lol, i got a 1st badge award for posting how bad spotify is

Hi @tvn

I totally understand where you’re coming from. It’s frustrating when you’re trying to run a business and feel like the support just isn’t there to back you up. Based on what you’ve shared, it seems like Shopify’s customer support system—especially the reliance on chatbots and offshore representatives—has been a major pain point for you. For a store pulling in over $2 million per year, your concerns definitely deserve more attention.

Let’s break it down and explore some ways to tackle these issues:

1. Support Challenges- Shopify does prioritize their chat and email support channels, which can feel impersonal, especially when you’re looking for immediate solutions. They do have a phone callback option, but it’s not always obvious how to access it. If you haven’t already, try searching for “Contact Shopify Support” in their Help Center and logging in to your account to see all support options. From my experience, the callback feature works better for complex issues.

  • Additionally, Shopify Plus (geared toward high-revenue stores like yours) offers dedicated account managers and priority support. It might be worth exploring if you’re sticking with Shopify.

2. Popup Box Issues- The constant “fix issues” messages could be related to errors like invalid data in your store setup (e.g., product listings, shipping profiles, or checkout settings). If the platform isn’t pointing you to the exact problem, try duplicating the issue on a different browser or device—it can help narrow down whether it’s a browser conflict or a Shopify-specific problem.

  • If you’re stuck, this is where escalating the issue through their support system is critical. Alternatively, hiring a Shopify Expert from their marketplace could help clear things up quickly.

3. Why You Might Be Feeling Let Down- Your situation is common among merchants moving from platforms like PayPal. While Shopify simplifies some processes (like payment integrations and inventory management), its limitations in hands-on support can make it feel like you’re sacrificing personalized service for automation.

  • If fees were another frustration, ensure you’ve optimized your payment methods. Shopify Payments eliminates extra transaction fees (beyond the standard credit card rates). Otherwise, platforms like PayPal or Stripe add processing fees that can stack up.

My Take
You’re not alone in feeling that Shopify can be a mixed bag when it comes to support, especially for merchants like you who run significant operations. If their support model doesn’t fit your needs, it’s worth considering other platforms that prioritize human-centered customer service while still offering robust eCommerce tools. Options like BigCommerce or WooCommerce (if you’re okay with a more hands-on setup) might better balance your needs for support, fees, and customization.

If you’re sticking with Shopify, I’d recommend:

  • Upgrading to Shopify Plus for dedicated support.
  • Using the community forums or Shopify Experts for faster, more direct assistance.
  • Leveraging their Help Center guides for setup tweaks.

If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to help.
Best regards,
Daisy
