Hi, I want to use the “Theme” category metafield in all my products, but it’s missing category assignments for some product types (namely, “Digital Artwork”). I tried going into the definition and adding the category assignment, but I keep getting the error “This namespace is reserved for standard definitions.”
I’m not trying to change anything about the core definition of Theme - I just want to apply it to more product types. It’s weird that it’s not an option for digital artwork anyway as it is for non-digital artwork.
For more context - I’m using it for filtering my products using Search & Discovery since apparently tags can’t be used for that.
I know I can set up a custom metafield. I was hoping that I wouldn’t need to migrate all my existing art products to a separate metafield just to accommodate digital art.
For what? You can use tags as filter source in S&D – it’s just called “more filters” in standard type.
And no, you can’t modify standard category MFs.
But you can assign a different category on the product and use category MF from that category (you may even be able to re-categorize it back and keep the added MF).
Hi @siacodes ,
Shopify doesn’t currently allow expanding the category assignments for their built-in definitions, so custom metafields are the only flexible workaround.
Assigning a different category won’t work here because the products have different sales tax profiles
Have you tried this? I’ve heard it works.
