Has anyone had it confirmed that Shopify is to ban vape stores on its platform? How long do existing stores have to migrate? Can you continue to trade during that time?
many thanks in advance.

I’ve seen the many headlines, but I’m not able to find anything on Shopify’s site currently. Perhaps it would be best to contact shopify through their customer support and find out as best you can.
Yes, July 8th according to the email I saw that they sent a few merchants. Just helped a few people fine solutions to migrate.
Hi @GavinHardy
Based on the information available so far, Shopify hasn’t published a detailed migration timeline or guidance for existing vape merchants in this Community thread. The initial reports indicate Shopify is planning to prohibit vape sales on its platform, but there are still important details—such as the effective date, geographic scope, and transition period—that haven’t been fully clarified publicly.
If your business depends on vape products, I’d recommend contacting Shopify Support directly as soon as possible. They can confirm whether your specific store will be affected, whether the policy applies in your region, and whether there will be any grace period for existing merchants.
In the meantime, keep an eye on any emails from Shopify regarding policy updates, as those communications will be the most authoritative source for your account.
Hopefully Shopify provides clearer guidance soon so affected merchants have enough time to plan any necessary changes.
From what I’ve been able to find, Shopify hasn’t yet published an official migration timeline or detailed guidance on its Help Center. However, Reuters and several industry reports indicate that Shopify is moving to prohibit vape and e-cigarette sales following pressure from U.S. regulators.
None of those links actually say that. They all say that “Shopify is set/agreed/expected to … as soon as the end of the week”. There’s no published date and no article (yet) saying that they have done it.
Their payments platform doesn’t work for any product in the high risk category (tobacco products being in that).
Hi NKCreativeSoulutions, I’ve provided those hyperlinks to news sources because Shopify won’t do it. Historically, Shopify prefers to publish news of this type on their Policy Pages or Terms & Conditions of Use pages. links.
My agency has been exclusively focused on helping CBD-hemp flower, vape and e-Cigarette sellers for at least seven years now. We offer several excellent payment processing solutions these items as well as achieve state & federal level compliance requirements.
Here are hyperlinks to multiple trusted reference sources. Nothing officially confirmed from Shopify at scale yet, they usually don’t do blanket bans without updating their Acceptable Use Policy first and giving notice.
We are in agreement, the ban is real. I never said otherwise.
What I don’t see is the “as of when” the ban takes place. If you have a date, please share that.
Hey @GavinHardy .
Yes, it is confirmed. Shopify announced last week, June 23-24, 2026, that it is banning all vape and e-cigarette products from the platform, following pressure from a coalition of state attorneys general.
You need to remove affected products by July 7, 2026, or file a successful appeal, and you can keep trading normally right up until that deadline. The ban covers all vape products, devices, e-liquids, parts, and refills with no exceptions. If you have not gotten a notice yet, it is worth checking your Shopify admin or contacting support directly to confirm where your store stands.
