Shopify unsubscribes customer who sign up for email marketing at checkout when they abandon checkout

Hello,

I’m currently running into a problem with my Shopify in which:

  1. A customer would Checkout and check “subscribe to email marketing”

  2. The customer clicks to the next page then abandons checkout

  3. Shopify then does not subscribe the customer to email marketing even though he/she already agreed to it (If you click on the customer’s checkout link, the email subscription box is checked).

This is extremely frustrating as I can not send out my abandon email sequences. I looked into all the abandon checkout customers who checked the email subscription box, and can confirm that Shopify does not register the user as subscribed under my “customer list”. Has anyone ran into this issue or is this something that is built into shopify? Much appreciated!
