Shopify x Fareharbor x Cookiebot

Topic summary

A Shopify store recently integrated FareHarbor for tour bookings but faces analytics limitations because FareHarbor doesn’t support Shopify’s native cookie solution. This prevents tracking key metrics like tour page views and checkout abandonment rates.

Available cookie solutions:
FareHarbor only integrates with 5 third-party consent platforms: CookiePro, Complianz, Cookiebot, iubenda, and Cookie Law Info (note: new Cookie Law Info integrations are no longer possible, and CookieYes is not supported).

Technical concerns:

  • The poster selected Cookiebot but discovered it requires significant code implementation
  • Cookiebot’s Shopify installation page warns that native Shopify scripts load before third-party consent tools, potentially setting cookies before user consent
  • These native scripts cannot be marked up or controlled by store owners

Seeking guidance on:

  • Whether others have successfully implemented third-party cookie consent solutions on Shopify
  • How to verify proper implementation
  • Specific experience with FareHarbor integration

The issue remains unresolved, with the poster hesitant to proceed without confirmation the solution will work correctly.

Hi there,

I haven’t seen any questions pop up about Fareharbor, so not sure if anyone else is using them, but looking for some advice.

We recently transitioned to Fareharbor to use them for tour bookings, but they don’t integrate with Shopifys cookie solution. Because of this we can only see when customers make a purchase and not how many people have viewed specific tours, or reached checkout, which are pretty key analytics to help us see where customers are dropping off.

They only integrate with 5 other cookies solutions:

  • CookiePro
  • Complianz
  • Cookiebot
  • iubenda
  • Cookie Law Info (Note: If you want to integrate with Cookie Law Info but their website redirects you to CookieYes, please be advised that FareHarbor does not support integration with CookieYes, only with Cookie Law Info, which is owned by CookieYes. Please also note that while existing Cookie Law Info integrations and banners are still supported, no new integrations with Cookie Law Info are possible.)

I’ve tested a bunch but majority of them work best with wordpress or their functionality is clunky, so the one I’ve landed on is Cookiebot.

The set up is turning out to require a lot of code implementation, something I’m not super confident doing. And it has this warning message come up on their Shopify installation page:

“Website Builders like Shopify add their own native scripts to the page before any of your own content is added, including third party scripts like Cookiebot. This means that by the time the Cookiebot script loads, cookies or similar trackers will potentially already have been set.
To avoid tracking by the Website Builder’s native scripts prior consent, you would have to mark them up. Unfortunately these scripts aren’t accessible to you, making this impossible.”

Has anyone implemented third party cookies into their shopify website and how’s best to see if they’re enabled properly?

I’m a bit worried to start adding elements of code, so wanted to see if anyone else has come across this specifically with Fareharbor or in general. It’s something I’m going to have to implement as we need to see this data for our tours.

Thanks!
