Recently, the upper management of Shopify seems to be increasingly concerned with espousing non-diversity, non-immigration, non-inclusive policies, and broadcasting these views to the world. This is extremely concerning. My customer base is a well-informed and inclusive community, and I’m worried that I will face backlash by being associated with a group of young, extremist CEO’s who seem more concerned with aligning themselves with Trump than running a business. I’m wondering if anyone else is sharing these concerns, what action you are taking, and what you’d recommend.
Topic summary
A merchant expresses concern that Shopify’s leadership is publicly promoting policies perceived as anti-diversity, anti-immigration, and non-inclusive, with apparent alignment to Trump’s positions.
Main worry: The merchant fears customer backlash due to association with these views, as their customer base values inclusivity and is well-informed.
Community response: Another user shares similar concerns about supporting a company with these beliefs and plans to contact Shopify directly.
Current status: The discussion remains open, with participants seeking advice on potential actions and wondering if others share these concerns about how the platform’s political stance might impact their businesses.
I think that’s totally fair and I am worried about the same as I do not want to support a company that holds these beliefs. I’ll be reaching out to Shopify with my concerns and I hope many others do the same.
