Hi kids. Woke up today to a Google notification that there was a new owner of my shortened oldmainemporium.com domain and it’s an Indonesian gaming website running on Shopify. While this person is not listed in my Google console anywhere, this is going to suck. Is there anything I can do? Is there anything Shopify can do?
If you bought that domain through shopify, you should contact shopify support. As both websites are running on shopify and if shopify manages that domain, it should be possible for this to be fixed.
Hi,
Did you get this sorted out because the same thing happened to me a week ago. Someone hijacked a subdomain of my domain name, which was not in use. This also went to an Indonesian gaming store on Shopify.
I took their site down myself by deleting the subdomain from my DNS records. I’m still surprised that Shopify allow people to set up store using a subdomain without the permission of the root domain holder.
If you cannot see the shortened domain in your Google console, then you need to make sure that you add it. You will then see the new ‘owner’ and remove them.
All the best,
JJL
I did get it resolved. I contacted Go Daddy and a tech there helped me get it taken down. Yes, shame on Shopify for allowing this to happen.
