Show Automatic Discount Original and Sales Price Comparison in International Markets

Topic summary

Issue: Original vs sale price not showing in International Markets when automatic discounts are applied.

  • In the primary market (AUD), the product displays both the original (compare-at) price and the discounted sale price, as desired. Images were provided to illustrate the correct display vs. the issue in the international market.
  • In the international (European) market, only the sale price shows; the original (compare-at) price is hidden.

Resolution:

  • The OP solved it by disabling the “Hide sales” option in Shopify Markets Preferences for the European market. This restored the display of the original compare-at price alongside the sale price.

Context/technical detail:

  • “Compare-at price” is the original price used to show markdowns. Automatic discounts rely on this to present savings.
  • A commenter notes Shopify Markets’ default “Hide compare-at prices” can suppress this data to themes/apps, potentially breaking discounts based on compare-at price and causing confusion.

Status:

  • Resolved for the OP by changing the market preference. Broader concern remains about the default setting leading to display and discount calculation issues.

Frankly, I wish the “Hide compare-at prices” feature of Shopify Markets were not the default. It also can break discounts that are calculated based on compare-at prices, because it causes Shopify to simply not report to apps/discounts/themes that a product variant’s compare-at price exists, at all. It’s caused much confusion already.
