Showing a product is stocked on an online store

Hi everyone! I’m new to Shopify and recently started a job as a manager for a small business. We have two separate locations—a shoe store and a clothing store—both under one Shopify account.

When I update inventory for the shoe store, the items show as out of stock on the online store even though they are available in-store. The locations are already set up correctly. Inventory assigned to the clothing store displays as in stock online, but when I switch the inventory to the shoe store location, it shows as out of stock on the website.

Is there a way to have inventory from the shoe store show as in stock on the website while still keeping accurate inventory counts for both locations?

Can you confirm the following because it will make a big difference in the outcome.

Does this mean you have 2 locations in one Shopify Store?

Or does it mean you have 2 Shopify Stores, each with 1 location?

Or do you have 2 Shopify Stores, and share inventory between both using the 2 locations?

The reason is because “location”, “store”, and “account” all have different meanings, and it will help to know the exact situation.

We have two physical locations under one Shopify store, and both locations share the same online website. All products from both locations are managed in one Shopify account with the same admin access.

To manage inventory by store, I assign inventory to the appropriate location within each product. Clothing items show as in stock on the online store when inventory is assigned to the “Clothing” location, but shoe items do not show as in stock when inventory is assigned to the “Shoes” location (online store says “Out of Stock” when inventory is assigned to the “Shoes” location).

I’m trying to figure out how to have shoe inventory appear as available on the website when the inventory exists at the Shoes location.

I’m still new to Shopify and was pretty much thrown into this and told “good luck,” so any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

To ensure your Shopify store displays and uses inventory from two (or more) locations, you must verify both the location settings and the individual product settings.

1. Enable Online Fulfillment for Locations

First, you must tell Shopify that these locations are allowed to fulfill web orders.

* Go to Settings > Locations.

* Click on each location name.

* In the Fulfillment section, ensure the box “Fulfill online orders from this location” is checked.

* Click Save.

2. Set Fulfillment Priority

If both locations have stock, Shopify needs to know which one to “pull” from first.

* Go to Settings > Locations.

* In the Fulfillment priority section, click View or edit location priority.

* Drag and drop the locations to your preferred order. The online store will show the combined total of all enabled locations, but orders will be deducted from the top-priority location first until it is sold out.

3. Assign Products to Multiple Locations

Even if locations are enabled, each product must be specifically “connected” to those locations.

* Go to Products and select a product (or variant).

* Scroll to the Inventory section.

* In the “Inventory will be stocked at” dropdown, ensure Multiple locations is selected.

* Click Edit locations.

* Check the boxes for both locations and click Save.

* Enter the specific stock quantities for each location and click Save.

4. Shipping Profile Check

If a product is at a location but that location isn’t part of your shipping zone, it won’t be available for purchase.

* Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.

* Click on your General profile (or specific custom profile).

* Scroll to Shipping origins and ensure both locations are listed as “Shipping from.”

* If one is missing, click Manage to add it to the profile.
