Simple Bundles & Kits - variation issues

Topic summary

A user is experiencing an issue with the Simple Bundles & Kits app where creating a bundle containing both variant and non-variant products causes an unnecessary variant selector to appear for products without variants.

Problem Details:

  • When bundling a product with variants and one without, a generic variant selector incorrectly displays on the non-variant product
  • The user attempted adding a dummy variant to the non-variant product, but this created new issues: variant selection stopped working on desktop, and on mobile only one variant could be selected across both selectors

Suggested Solutions:

  • Add a dummy variant (e.g., “Default”) and hide the selector using CSS or custom Liquid code
  • Use custom Liquid to detect single-variant products and skip rendering the selector
  • Switch to alternative bundle apps that handle this logic natively

Alternative Apps Recommended:

  • BiDeal Bundle Volume Discounts (mix-and-match feature)
  • Easify Box Builder (free app; shows “Add to cart” for non-variant products, “Choose options” for variant products)
  • BOGOS app (supports advanced bundles, gifts, discounts)
  • JTDL: Bundles & Discounts (variant bundle tabs with automatic discount logic)

Status: The issue remains unresolved with the original app; the user is exploring workarounds.

i’m trying to make a bundle with Simple Bundles & Kits but have the problem that when i try making a bundle with a product with variants, and a product with no variants, this generic variant selector pops up on the product with no variants.

has anyone found a solution for working around it so the customer shouldn’t choose a variant for a product with no variant?

Hi @CKRxNH

Why don’t you try with BiDeal Bundle Volume Discounts app?

The mix-and-match feature allow you free to select which product will be in children, and once you select product variants in child, it will display “chose options” for you to select which variant you want.

Hi @CKRxNH

You can try using the Easify Box Builder — it is a free app that lets you create one-page bundles, where customers can select all items from a single view.

What’s nice is that for products without variants, it will simply show an “Add to cart” button. For products with variants, it’ll show “Choose options” so customers can select the variant directly within the bundle.

This avoids the issue with unnecessary variant selectors and keeps the experience smooth for your customers. Here’s how it works:

  • This is the result:

  • This is the app setting:

Here, in the step, you can custom text and assign your products manually or by conditions

Then, you can set the discount if needed

The app is super easy to use, and it helps you create a smooth, engaging experience for your customers. If you need any help, our 24/7 in-app live chat support is always here to assist! :hugs:

Hi @CKRxNH  I’m happy to help you find out the solution for this issue

:check_mark: Workarounds others have used

  • Add a dummy variant (e.g., “Default”) and hide the selector using theme code or CSS.
  • Use custom Liquid to detect single-variant products and skip rendering the selector.
  • Switch to a Shopify bundle app that handles this logic better, like BOGOS app which never has that problem

:fire: Bonus:

BOGOS app supports:

  • Advanced bundle (classic bundle, mix and match bundle, bundle builder)
  • Advanced gift, discount, upsell feature

→ all-in-one powerful promotion app.

I highly recommend you** try BOGOS app for 7 free day trials** first!

Hi,
Thank you for the answer :slightly_smiling_face:
I Tried making a single variant on the powerbank, but now i can’t select the variants in the selector on desctop… i can on mobile but it dosen’t really work you can only select one variant across both variant selectors on mobile.

Hi there! :waving_hand:

You might want to check out the JTDL: Bundles & Discounts app — it supports exactly what you’re looking for:

Variant bundle tabs displayed above the native “Add to Cart” button (e.g., Basic, Pro, Bundle)
Short descriptions shown under each option (pulled from product tags)
A single “Add Bundle to Cart” button that includes all selected items
Automatic discount logic applied at checkout — no custom code required
Supports both popup and inline bundle displays, so you can choose what fits your theme best

Let me know if you’d like help getting it set up or want a quick demo!
