Site suddenly doesn't work and SSL Pending

I’ve had my site in place at Shopify since October 2018. Yesterday, it stopped working for https:// I can’t reach the site.

My domain is through Network Solutions. I’ve had the domain for 10+ years.

Until yesterday, no issues.

In troubleshooting I noticed that the IP I had been using since 2018 (23.227.38.32) had since been changed to be 23.227.38.65 for third party domain providers. When this was set up it was .32 not .65 and . . . . again . . . no issues.

So, the first thing I did was to change the IP. Nothing.

Next, I have enabled DNSSEC at Network Solutions. I see that Shopify DOES NOT WORK with DNSSEC, so I’ve disabled that. Nothing. BTW, I enable DNSSEC on July 31, 2021 - and the site stopped working on September 2, 2021. That is about 5 weeks that it worked, so this doesn’t really point to DNSSEC being the issue. Nonetheless, it is disabled, but the site doesn’t work for https:// and you cannot get to it.

Everything I’ve set up at Shopify is to the letter what Shopify advises in its tutorials. And all was working fine. What happened yesterday that caused my site not to work any longer?

Does anyone have any ideas? Site is http://www.gingersbreadboys.com. And not working for https://www.gingersbreadboys.com or https://gingersbreadboys.com

Hey @VirginiaGBB ,

Great to see you’ve attempted to troubleshoot this issue yourself!

I have just gone ahead and accessed your store and it’s connecting securely with a valid certificate, are you still having issues on your end? Was your domain due to renew recently? If so, an SSL certificate is automatically issued upon renewal but can take up to 48 hours to be created.

If you use a third-party domain, then Shopify’s IP address is 23.227.38.65. If you buy a domain through Shopify or transfer your domain to Shopify, then your domain can have any of the following IP addresses:

  • 23.227.38.32

  • 23.227.38.36

  • 23.227.38.65 to 23.227.38.74

Note: Your Shopify domain can switch between these IP addresses at any time.

It’s possible the adjustments you made just needed some time to update, I have seen cases where DNS records can take up to 48 hours to successfully propagate.

As a side note, I love the work you’ve done on your website so far. The Classic Gingerbread Cookie Kit stands out to me because of the great job you’ve done with the product images and description. Have you thought about who your target customer is for your website? Our blog post on Building a Buyer Persona talks about narrowing down who your ideal customer is.
