I have created my store, but I am facing a problem with the products that I have. Many of them have sku above 100, which Shopify doesn’t allow. I found the solution to this problem via an app called Product Variants Reloaded , but the main issue it the price of using this app. It costs minimally $ 19.99/month. I have just started my store, so for an app like this, it costs a lot. I wonder if anyone has another cheaper app or a different approach to this problem. This is the link to the app for the people who are interested Product Variants Reloaded - Shopify more than 100 variants and six product options | Shopify App Store
No, shopify has a VARIANT limit of 100.
A shopify store can pretty much have as many skus as needed.
Be very clear in which terms you use to refer to things when you have an issue or you only create more confusion for yourself and others.
Being sloppy with terms is a good way to waste time and lose a lot of money
More than 100 Variants, or the appearance of it
Depending on the actual goal more than 100 variants or the appearance of it can be achieved without apps.
Using a one time cost advanced theme customization instead of monthly apps to stitch together separate products, ala combined listings, flat-products, linked options, etc

The future, maybe
Be aware shopify claims to be working to increase the variant limit from 100 to 2,000 but no clear date is known. Product options may still be limited to 3, it’s not really clear.
For now go LOOK at the alternatives and use the compare feature in the category “Product Variants”.
That category is clearly linked to in the app url you provided.
Or search the app store for “100 variants”
You can list all the variants as individual products and create a dummy variant selector which will redirect to your correct product without using any APP.
Thank you for your reply. I kind wander that if many people are facing this problem, why there is no solution from Shopify platform? I have looked at many other apps, but these apps cannot solve the problem yet. I guess the main reason the cost is so high for this app is the absence of competitors in the market. This app solves the problem directly. In fact its solve purpose is to solve the problem. This what I really like about this app: here is the problem and here is the solution to it without any nonsense.
I get where you’re coming from and why it’s frustrating. I think you could actually solve this with a bit of custom coding, so you wouldn’t need to rely on a paid app. For example, you could split your product into smaller groups and link them together on the product page so it feels like one product to customers but bypasses Shopify’s 100-variant limit. I’d be happy to assist with the custom coding if you decide to move forward with this approach.
You can split the product variants and group them via metafields. This approach requires a custom code to group them back as one product in your collection or product pages.
Thanks for sharing the link — really helpful example. I’m actually building an app for one of my B2B clients that sells lab equipment. They have what I’d call grouped products with hundreds of variations that go well beyond Shopify’s 100-variant limit.
I’m using a similar approach to what you’ve shown — each variation is its own product — but I’m developing an app that takes it further by allowing merchants to:
Group individual products as “child items” under a parent (real SKUs, real inventory)
Display them on the parent product page in either a filterable table view or a spec-based configurator
Let merchants choose which specs (e.g., length, particle size, pore size) are shown as filters on each grouped product
Let users select the specs they need, then dynamically display all matching child products — either directly on the page or in a modal — with add-to-cart options
Allow users to click a specific child product and be taken to its dedicated product page, keeping SEO intact and tracking clean
We’re also making sure the app is fully compatible with Shopify Plus B2B features, especially the custom catalogs functionality — so that grouped products and their children respect customer-specific pricing and catalog visibility rules. That’s something most apps in this space don’t address, and it’s actually one of the main reasons I decided to build this out.
Happy to share more if anyone else is working with large catalogs or B2B use cases on Shopify.
Shopify has recently rolled out an update increasing the product variant limit. You can check the link below for details — they now support up to 2048 variants per product.
You might want to try out Grouptify – Combined Listings and Variants instead of Product Variants Reloaded. This app lets you unlock unlimited variants and bypass Shopify’s 100-variant limit.
Its Basic plan (for up to 100 product groups) is only $9.99 / month, much cheaper than $19.99. Right now, there’s a 50% off sale for 3 months (ending on Dec, 1st, 2025), so you can save even more in the short term.
Thankfully that limitation was removed about 2 months ago by Shopify. You can add as many products as you would like to, but anyway thank you for your suggestion.
If the main challenge you’re facing is Shopify’s 100-variant limit, you might want to consider a different approach rather than creating every possible combination as an actual Shopify variant.
You could check out Easify Custom Product Options. Instead of creating hundreds or even thousands of variants, you can keep only the variants that truly require inventory tracking and use custom options for the rest.
To help you visualize it, I’ve created a similar demo:
For example, options such as Size, Material, Style, Print Type, or other customization choices can be displayed using Option Buttons, Dropdowns, Color Swatches, or Image Swatches. This allows customers to select from a large number of combinations without running into Shopify’s variant limit.
In addition, you can assign price adjustments to option values, use Conditional Logic, and create more advanced option setups without having to generate additional variants. This can make product management much simpler, especially if you offer many product combinations.
Another advantage is that Easify offers a Free plan to get started, and the paid plans are also quite affordable, which may be a better fit for a new store that is trying to keep costs under control.
I find this approach particularly useful for stores that need to offer lots of choices but don’t necessarily need separate inventory tracking for every possible combination. It gives customers the flexibility they need while helping you avoid Shopify’s variant limitations.
You can easily bypass Shopify’s 100-variant limit by using the Misk Smart Product Options app.
It allows you to create unlimited variations and features advanced options like file uploads, dropdowns, checkboxes, and interactive color or image swatches to deliver a much better customer experience.
Reviving this thread because the variant update was a game-changer! Anyone found creative ways to manage products nearing the new 2,048 variant limit? Also, have folks tried using custom apps for better variant management post-update? Curious to hear about your experiences or any fresh ideas since the change.
