Some questions about consolidating existing stores in a single primary store with 'markets'

Topic summary

A merchant is consolidating three separate Shopify stores (UK, US, and Germany) into a single primary store using the Markets feature.

Key Questions Raised:

  • Whether to use the US store as primary despite the UK being the home market
  • How to handle customer migration (19,000 UK, 3,500 US, 2,500 Germany customers)
  • Product import process and whether products can be included/excluded per market

Response Provided:

  • The primary market defaults to the store’s registered location
  • Primary market should typically align with where most customers and sales originate (UK in this case)
  • Products can be imported to the primary store, then individually assigned to each market via Settings > Markets > [market name] > Products and listing
  • Customers can be imported separately to each market since data is already segmented by country

Hi

We currently have three stores in the UK, US and Germany, that we want to consolidate into one store using markets function and I have a couple of questions?

Our ‘home market’ is the UK, but we want to use our US store as primary? Is this a good idea?

We have 19,000 customers in the UK, 3500 in the US and 2500 in Germany. Can I import them to the relevant market, or do I just have to import them to the primary store and segment them?

Same for products, do I add all products to the home store and then either include or exclude?

Can I import products or do I have to add manually?

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi @nmgarnett !

To answer your first question as having the US market as your primary, your primary market will be defaulted to where your store location is registered. Also, your primary market is where the most of your customers and sales are coming from which based on your message, from UK. Also, you can import your customers separately to each markets since, you have customer data segmented by country. You can also import your products into each market individually by going to >settings >markets >name of the market >products and listing.

Morning

Thanks so much, that’s really helpful, particularly about importing products
